Principal Note
Illinois Assessment of Readiness Update
Yesterday our 3rd grade students finished their last unit of the IAR assessment, which marked the end of our IAR testing. Next week we will conduct make-up testing for any 3rd-5th grade students who missed an assessment due to absences. I was impressed with the hard work and grit our Mustangs displayed throughout the testing window.
Bus Evacuation Drills
All Munhall bus riders will participate in bus evacuation drills at the end of the day on Wednesday, May 5th. The bus driver, coupled with a Munhall staff member, will support students with protocols should a bus need to have an emergency evacuation. The drills will begin at 1:25 pm, so bus riders should return home at their normally scheduled time on this date.
Returning Student Registration for 2021-2022 School Year
Returning student registration for the 2021-2022 school year will open at 9:00 a.m. on April 26th. Parents can sign into the Returning Student Online Registration form located in the Parents/Community menu of the District website.
Parents/guardians will use their Home Access Center (HAC) credentials to sign in and select individual students to complete each registration. The electronic registration forms for elementary and middle school students should be completed by June 1.
Registration fees for all grades will be available in Pushcoin beginning July 1, and will be billed to reflect the early bird discount if paid by July 31. Pushcoin will email invoices for accounts with balances due on the 15th of each month until paid in full.
Parent Letters for 2021-2022 Classroom Placement
In planning for the upcoming school year, parents are invited to provide information that will assist us in the class placement process. Since every learner is unique, our goal is to pair each learner with an environment that maximizes his or her potential. Therefore, balancing classrooms based on gender, special needs or talents, learning styles, and personalities are all factored as we compile class lists. As you can imagine, this is a complex process and a very important one.
We welcome any information that you would like to provide about your student in order to assist us in making the best possible placement. Because of the many factors considered when putting a class roster together, requests for specific teachers will not be accepted. Clearly defining the needs of your child will be most helpful in making a good classroom assignment.
If you have information that will assist us in making a placement for your child, please forward that information to me in writing. You may wish to include the following types of information:
- Your child’s talents and needs
- The type of classroom environment that has been or will be most beneficial for your child
- Your child’s personality and learning style
Letters must be received by April 30, 2021 to receive consideration. Letters can be submitted through the Munhall main office, or through an email attachment at Jarrod.Buxton@d303.org.
Thank you for your assistance in this important matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 331-228-6637.
Jarrod Buxton, Principal

Please remember to take care of your children’s dental health.
Cavities (also known as caries or tooth decay) are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Children who have poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than children who don’t. “Basics of Oral Health.” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4 Jan. 2021, www.cdc.gov
Attention 4th-Graders! The band program is back in action!
We are so excited to offer all of our wonderful wind instruments to in-coming 5th-grade students for the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. Lydigsen will be popping into classrooms in May to show students the instruments and answer questions. Students can choose from oboe, flute, clarinet, alto sax, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba or percussion.
