Mr. Goetz's Corner
Happy Friday Deerfield families! I hope that we are all enjoying the gorgeous warm weather today! I am looking forward to Summer and sunshine and today is a little taste of that. We had a fun week of field trips here! Our first graders got to visit a dairy farm, our third graders got to visit the zoo, and our fifth graders got to go to AMS for a tour! They all had so much fun.
The Book Fair begins next week on Tuesday May 24th! It will run until Thursday June 2nd. It will also be open during our ArtFest on Wednesday May 25th. We also had a visit from the Auburn Hills Public Library today to share with our students all about their Summer Reading program! The students were sent home with information and you can also find additional information on their website.
Don't forget our ArtFest is next Wednesday, May 25th from 5-7pm! Our students have worked so hard on their artwork and Mrs. Larson and our volunteers have worked so hard to get the Fest ready. We are looking forward to seeing all the hard work on display! If you are interested in helping out, Mrs. Larson is looking for donations of paper grocery bags with handles.
Our Field Day will be taking place on Wednesday June 1st, and our Dad's Carnival will be taking place on Saturday June 4th. The Dad's Carnival is an event that is open to all students and family. The Dad's Carnival is put together by a group of Deerfield Dads! We are so thankful for their hard work and for the fun event they put together.
Deerfield has had a long tradition of providing fun and exciting events for our students like these, also including our Fun Run, Fall Family Dance, Santa's Breakfast, and more. These events would not be possible without the help of amazing parents, organizing and volunteering to lend a hand. Recently we have seen a decline in the number of parents offering to step in and support these wonderful family events and I am worried without the support from our families, we will not be able to continue with these great events. We have two events coming up that we could use parents help to make them successful. Below are Sign Up Genius for Field Day and the Dads Carnival. Please consider volunteering to help. There is no experience needed and it is a great way to meet other parents at Deerfield!
There is an early dismissal next week on Thursday May 26. We will dismiss at 1:35.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Special Thank You to our Daisy Troop!
We would like to extend a super special thank you to our Daisy Troop members Nandini, Louise, Harper, and Lainey. The girls chose to pick up the Deerfield Playground as a way to earn their "Make the World a Better Place" petal patch - they did such a great job! They filled two big garbage bags! Thank you girls! We are so grateful that you are dedicated to making our school community a better place.

Class Placement Requests
It is difficult to believe, but we are already making plans for next year. Each year the staff at Deerfield spends many hours and takes special care assigning students to their next year’s classes. In performing this task, many factors are taken into account, from governmental guidelines to social and academic considerations. The factors involved in this process are as follows:
- Balance of male and female students
- A range of reading, writing, and math abilities in each room
- Consideration of learning needs
- Separation of behavior conflicts
- Balance of students with strong leadership qualities
- Balance of students with independent study habits
In analyzing all these factors we strive to develop balanced classrooms, which will be minimally affected by the addition of new students as they move into our area. If you have additional information regarding your child's specific educational needs, we offer you the opportunity to share your input. This information must be submitted in writing (david.goetz@avondaleschools.org) no later than Friday, May 20, 2022.
News From the Art Room
Save the date...ArtFest 2022 will be on Wednesday, May 25th from 5:00-7:00pm. All Deerfield families are invited to come and stroll through the hallways to see our amazing gallery of artwork. There will be an interactive display for a fabulous photo op and ice cream for all. We hope to see you there!
Thank you so much to all those who have volunteered to help hang our students wonderful art work around the school for the fest! We are now hoping for donations to be made of paper grocery bags that have handles on them. If you have any you are able to donate Mrs. Larson would greatly appreciate it! We are so thankful for such a helpful Deerfield community.
