A Message from the Leadership Team

Community Education is looking forward to the spring session. We have a new class for Social Media and Promoting Your Business and Zumba that will be offered. For summer, we are looking forward to offering a summer camp for children in grades 3-5 at LWTC. The morning session will be all about Coding and the afternoon sessions vary, but will include sessions highlighting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Science (STEAM). Lastly, hope to see everyone at the Everblades game on Saturday, April 9. It is a fun family orientated evening.

Next week we start a new full-time day program at LWTC, the ELCATE Academy, for 16-21 year old students. The ELCATE Academy curriculum is focused on English literacy, social studies, math, and science in preparation to attain a high school diploma by passing the GED. Students will also have the opportunity to explore different career pathways to help plan for their future. Welcome to Jesse Cortada who has taken on the challenge of this new exciting program.

Best Practices

Adult learner persistence and retention is directly related to the degree that they are involved in planning their own learning. Instructors that help adult learners define their goals, assess themselves realistically, and understand the sequence of instructional objectives required to attain the goal see an increase in learner persistence and retention. Adult learners should be actively involved in planning their programs. Students want instruction that is related to their goals, and positive classroom environments include involving students in planning activities.
