GOSPEL REFLECTION
Although the devil (another word for Satan, meaning "tempter" is the one tempting Jesus, Mathew tells us that it is the Spirit that initially leads him into the desert. In other words, God himself desires and allows this time of testing, leading Jesus to this time and place. Before embarking on his mission, one that will end a final excruciating test in his passion death, Jesus will display the steadfast and clear-sighted faithfulness that will characterize his messiahship and Sonship.
The desert image is a useful one. Compared to a village or city, a desert is a quiet place where there is not much to look at, and there are a few, if any, other people present. This is a place where Jesus faces temptation alone. There is nowhere to turn, no one else to help or fail him, nothing material to comfort or distract him.
We will not be led into a literal desert, our own quiet, our own place of minimal distraction? Prayer is that quiet place. Even in the city, even in a noisy house, we can go to a quiet inner place, a desert within, a place where we can communicate with God like Moses or focus on his Word like Jesus. This Lent let us go to that place and make the most of our own 40-day fast.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Re- Enrollment Procedures
The Re-Enrollment process for the 2017-18 school year has begun. The process is very simple. You need to log into School Speak and follow the directions. You will be required to pay the Re-Enrollment fee of $305 per student at the time of enrollment. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the school office. If you intend not to return to All Souls it would be appreciative if you contact Mrs. Cierra immediately so that we can make adjustments to our classes.
Title 1 Survey
As part of providing additional educational services through Title 1 federal program we need to ascertain the amount awarded to the school based on the income levels of our families. I will be issuing a document on Monday for all families to complete. It is a confidential document with no names attached. You will be required to complete your address and the grades your children are in. The district uses this information to determine how much money will be allocated to All Souls. We wish to receive everything that is attributed to our school. I would ask you to complete the form straight away and place it in the provided envelope and return it to your homeroom teacher.
Congratulations
Our Basketball teams have performed very well this season with 4 teams reaching the championships. These games are being played this week. I wish to take this opportunity to thank our coaches for working with the students during this last quarter.
Lent
We are in the beginning of the Lenten season now. We will be giving out the Mission boxes today to the children so that they can put their spare change into the box. The boxes are due back to the homeroom on Holy Thursday.
Family Sunday Mass
This coming Sunday we celebrate our family school Mass. Our Kindergarten and 7th grade students have prepared for this Mass. We look forward to seeing as many students and parents at this Mass at 9am.
Academic Decathlon
This Saturday our 8th graders will be participating in the Archdiocese of San Francisco Decathlon. The students will be competing against 11 other schools. Thanks to Mr. Wright for working with these students in preparing for this wonderful event, which will be held at St. Pius School in Redwood City.
Makers Room Donation
I am very pleased to announce that we received a $5,500.00 donation from Pacific Office Automation towards our Makers Room to develop our STEM program. The Makers Room project has begun and with this additional money we will put some of it towards the purchase of three Dimensional printers and robots.
God Bless,

CALENDAR
FROM SCHOOL BOARD
All Souls School Board, with support from our school parents, Molloy’s Tavern and the school staff and community enjoyed a night out. The Molloy’s fundraiser, which took place on February 25, 2017, was a great evening. This event is a time to socialize as a community and gave us a chance to get to know each other. While we raised funds for the school, we had fun doing it.
Attendees said: “We are delighted to have attended a spectacular event. It’s such a great opportunity for our parents and our supportive community to have some fun while raising money for the school.” Thanks to our generous supporters at the door, we raised $1,180.00 to help the school.
I would like to thank everyone on the school board for organizing such a great event. Lastly, on behalf of the board, I would like to say a special thank you to the friends and family members who helped us throughout the night.
TECHNOLOGY 411 WITH MR. CONMY
Hello Everyone,
Mr. Conmy here to promote all the fun things we are doing in the MakerSpace. Over the course of the last few weeks, the junior high students have been working on three projects. These projects consisted of a survey creation, data collection and a presentation of the findings. In union with their Spanish class, the junior high students have been diligently researching for a historical or current Hispanic individual that inspires the students.
For our Primary readers, the younger grades are developing their skill and prowess focusing on a STREAM education plan. To elaborate, the Kindergarten students have been learning where the letters and symbols go on a keyboard while the 2nd Graders built snowflakes from popsicle sticks for the holidays. Additionally, our 4th Graders are working through a crash course in plug-in coding using Scratch. In each classroom, the atmosphere consists of excitement as students are presented with new puzzles to solve.
As we strive to provide the students with opportunities that will foster their learning; the students continue to show both the willingness and focus necessary to overcome the challenges placed on them with STREAM curriculum.
