Week 29
Week 29 Notes
This week, we spent quite a bit of time looking through parent feedback on virtual learning. I'm very thankful that you all took the survey seriously and had a positive outlook on the work we're attempting to engage in. We're currently facing a challenging reality, but there are also some silver linings that we can focus on. The school shutdown has forced us all to develop some tech proficiency and skills that we didn't have before. When we return to school, there will be so many new tools that we can use that we simply didn't utilize before. I also hope you feel more closely connected to the work your child is doing. Our students and teachers are really talented and it's exciting to see what they can do in action.
Question of the Week
As you talk with your middle schooler this week, I encourage you to talk about any new resources he or she has learned about while we've been closed. You might ask "What is an activity or website that's new that you really like?" or "What new resource has your teacher tried that is making your work more fun or enjoyable?" I know our staff is working really hard and pushing themselves. Hopefully you are seeing that translated into engagement at home.
Stay safe and I'm excited to see you all in person again!
Thanks,
Jeff Carron

REMINDER - NO VIRTUAL LEARNING FRIDAY OR MONDAY
Boby Frings Scholarship
Boby Frings was a dedicated, loyal, caring teacher at Richfield School for nearly 20 years. Boby’s love of teaching and learning was the heartbeat of her educational philosophy. She held herself to high standards in the classroom and expected her students to do the same-- always guiding them to their fullest potential as curious learners and good humans.
Boby’s love of travel found its way into the lessons she planned for her English classes. Creativity and adventure were always part of her plans for motivating students. As a colleague, she was a supportive encourager and a staunch friend. She loved education and lived it every day, constantly challenging herself and others in a quest to keep learning. Her keen sense of humor delighted those in her presence.
The family of Boby Frings has honored her legacy and memory as a teacher through the establishment of the Boby Frings Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded annually to an 8th grade graduate of the Holy Hill Area School District. The recipient of the $1,500 Boby Frings Memorial Scholarship will be announced at the 8th Grade Commencement ceremony. (Receipt of actual scholarship dollars are sent directly to the college or institution bursar in the name of the recipient upon completion of high school.)
Letters of recommendation can be uploaded in the survey or emailed to Mrs. Kastner at kastner@hhasd.org.
Completed applications are due no later than Friday, May 8, 2020.
Virtual Spirit Week, April 20-24

2020 Wisconsin Statewide Virtual Tornado Drill
Wisconsin’s Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week April 13-17

ReadyWisconsin, the National Weather Service and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association encourages everyone in the state to participate in a Virtual Tornado Drill at 1:45 p.m. on April 16.

Virtual Learning Updates
Thank you all for the valuable feedback you provided around virtual learning. Today, our staff met to discuss the details of the survey. Together we discussed the following points.
- After an earlier staff meeting, we made adjustments to our time and workload expectations. Based on the feedback we received, we're confident that we are much closer to an appropriate balance for students. We will continue to listen and revise as the weeks go by.
- We will maintain the assignment notebook documents for each grade level. I emphasized the need to make sure they were well organized and clear. We will also make sure the most current week is at the top of the document.
- We will have extended deadlines on all assignments. Students may turn in all work up to the progress report deadline (4/27).
- Teachers will continue to utilize Google Meet for face-to-face meetings as that was noted in many responses.
- I emphasized the success of instructional videos and that we should all be providing instruction to students on any new content.
I gave the staff access to the comment section and allowed them to read through each comment together for a more in-depth look at your feedback.
Thank you again for providing feedback to the RMS staff. We want this transition to be successful for your child and family and value the details you shared with us.

United States Census 2020
The 2020 Census is more than a population count. It's an opportunity to shape your community's future.
Census results have an impact on planning and funding for health clinics and highways, fire departments and disaster response, education programs such as Head Start and college tuition assistance, and so much more.
You can inspire others. Tell everyone—your friends and family, neighbors and co-workers—that you will complete the census, and that they should respond now, too!
