Why debate?
Club Advisor: Sarah Spiker Rainey
This is Coach Spiker's second year with Wiley College. She is the Assistant Director of Forensics, coaching Wiley's speech and debate team and advising the Debate Club.
After finishing fourth in Public Forum Debate at the National Forensics League (NFL) High School National Tournament, Coach Spiker was recruited to Western Kentucky University's forensics team on scholarship to pursue additional instruction in argumentation and debate. In her senior year, she was named the 2011 Kentucky State Parliamentary Debate Champion, 2011 Kentucky State Parliamentary Top Debate Speaker, the 2011 National Forensics Association (NFA) National Lincoln Douglas Debate Champion, and the 2011 NFA National Lincoln Douglas Debate Top Speaker. In addition to her personal forensics career, Coach Spiker has provided public forum debate assistance to her former high school team, case development/lecturing for Mars Hill Bible School, and extemporaneous speaking coaching for Southern Kentucky (SKY) Academy.
In 2012, she joined Wiley College to coach the Great Debaters and successfully coached the first two Black national champions in Lincoln-Douglas debate (Junior Varsity and Novice Division) at Pi Kappa Delta Nationals.
