Discovery
Ceres was discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi on January 1,1801. Piazzi named the planet after a Roman god which was a god for corn and harvest. Ceres did not meet the requirments to become a planet so in 2006 Ceres was known as a dwarf planet. For half a century Ceres was classified as a planet. Ceres was also once known as an asteroid.
Ceres's location
Ceres is located in the Asteroid Belt which is between Mars and Jupiter. Ceres is the largest object in the Asteroid Belt and takes up about 1/3 of the belt's mass. Ceres still is the smallest dwarf planet yet. Ceres is the closest dwarf planet

Ceres has a thin, dusty outer crust and a rocky inner core. The tempature on Ceres is as high as minus 38 degrees celcius. Ceres is 950 km in diameter. Water was found on Ceres and could possibly erupt ice volcanoes. Dawn arrived on Ceres in early 2015. It was launched on September 27th of 2007
