Principal's Message

Hello Columbia Families,

Welcome to March, the month of hope. Days are getting longer, we are seeing early signs of spring, and the promise of warmer days.

This time of year, our students are celebrating their learning through i-Ready and other grade level assessments. The trimester ends on March 18th and progress reports will be sent home April 1st.

The attached graphs (CLICK HERE) show our i-Ready assessment data comparing first to second trimesters for both reading and math.

As you look at each graph, notice the growth students are making. We are pleased to see student learning making a recovery after the irregular schooling and adjustments our children made over the past two years. We expect to see even greater growth at the end of the third trimester.

Thank you for all you have done to support your children in their learning.

We appreciate your partnership,

Wendy Eidbo, EdD

Read Across the Cultures of America

March is National Reading Month, and our school is celebrating Read Across the Cultures of America this week! Unfortunately, we are not open to visitors yet, so we have partnered with District Office and Columbia staff to provide guest readers for our students. Our teachers are also providing activities with lots of extra reading opportunities this week.

Lastly, we will have a book character celebration day on Friday, March 4th. Students and staff may come to school dressed up as book characters. Please join us and dress up as your favorite character from books you love. We look forward to capturing all the creativity and fun.

Kindergarten Registration Opens March 7

Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year has been set for Monday, March 7th. Enrollment can be done online or parents can request a registration packet at the school office.

To register you will need a copy of

  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Residence (Electric bill, Leasing Agreement, etc.)
  • Immunization Record

Immunizations are required for in person school attendance and are established by the State of Washington. Students must have current immunizations to attend school. The state law states that students who are out of compliance with immunization requirements will be excluded from school until those conditions are met. Learn more about the state’s immunization requirements on the district website.

Kindergarten parents who like to submit an in-district transfer, can fill out the request form online. Students do not need to be registered in order to submit the transfer. They will need to be registered before District Office can process the transfer in September.

PE and Health News

Let’s talk breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It powers up your body and brain. It provides energy to move and feeds the brains so that you can concentrate during the school day. Start your day off with a quick and tasty breakfast. Some ideas; cereal, pancakes, waffles, breakfast sandwich, or some fruit. No matter what you do, please do not start your day off without energizing your body and brain.

Thank you very much to our students, parents, and community for their support of our annual Kid Heart Challenge fundraiser. Your donations help to fund vital research and educate the public about cardiovascular disease and stroke. This year we met our goal of 100 students participating. I am so PROUD!! Our top collectors were: Henry R.(3rd), Cameron W.(4th), and Kai H. (5th). Way to go!
