Mrs. Hladun's Tidings

It's hard to believe that it is November already - the days are getting shorter and chillier - it finally feels like fall! This time of year is always jam packed with lots of activities. Here are a few that you'll want to be sure are on your radar:

School Site Council (SSC) & English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) Meetings

We'll host our first ELAC meeting on Tuesday, 11/5 at 6 pm. Our School Site Council meeting will be held immediately afterwards at 6:45 pm. We'll be looking at our 2018-19 assessment data and reviewing our Site Plan which allocates our supplemental funds for the 2019-20 year. Those funds are spent on items generated by goals that we set based on our assessment data. Please join us in the library. There will be snacks and child care provided!

Sami's Circuit - Family Night!

Sami Kadar from Sami's Circuit was here on Thursday and the kids had a blast! Sami will be hosting a family night on Thursday, 11/7 starting at 6 pm. Click here for the flier and raffle ticket/RSVP form! Last year's Family Night was an awesome time and everyone who came had a blast!

Veteran's Day!

We are celebrating Veteran's Day with no school on Monday, 11/11 and with student assemblies and an evening production on Thursday, 11/14. There will be an assembly at 8:20am (for grades TK-2), 2 pm (for grades 3-5), and the evening show starts at 6:30 pm. There will be limited seating for guests during the day time assemblies, but lots of seating for the 6:30 pm show.

Bring in copies of photos of Veteran's close to your heart no later than Wednesday afternoon - drop them off in the school office with the the Veteran's name and your child/ren's name and the Veteran's relationship to your family on them!

Parent/Teacher Conferences & Report Cards

Our goal is to meet with every family in November for a parent/teacher conference. Most conferences will be held the week of November 18, and school will be dismissed at 12:30pm daily as a result (all TK and K will all attend school from 8-11:20am that week).

See details below about how to sign up for a conference - we'll start making conference appointments online on Tuesday.

Please know that during conferences our goal is to celebrate your child's growth and educational journey! Our report cards are mastery oriented, and so our goal is for our children to have demonstrated mastery of standards in multiple ways by the end of the year. For more info about how the report card is structured, click on the appropriate link below:

Boundary Study/2020-2021 Registration Update

NEW INFORMATION: none this week but it's November so it's got to be coming soon!!!

Please know that REGISTRATION will be running from mid December to early January this year (including TK registration, K registration and returning student commitments). In addition, the district will be accepting and processing INTRADISTRICT requests in January/early February, too. Please let your friends and neighbors know so they aren't caught by surprise, and they have access to any/all options!

At the School Board meeting on 9/17/19, Superintendent Leaman shared three options for the potential boundaries for LCES and SLES. Mr. Leaman will be hosting community meetings in the coming months to share the boundary options, to share potential ways that students will be assigned to schools (i.e. 5th graders, students on intras, etc...) and to collect input from families. The board will be making a decision in November (this date is new information!) so that the district is prepared for enrollment and staffing decisions that need to come in early 2020. Stay tuned for the dates/times/locations.

There will also be discussion and decisions this winter about extended day kindergarten options at each WPUSD elementary school as well as a decision to come about where the district's new dual immersion program will be housed.

Here is a color version of the various boundary options that are being considered:
