No audition is necessary, experience is not required but helpful if you have it. Rehearsals are at 7 PM on Monday evenings here on campus, in room #904. Rehearsals begin Monday, Oct 24th. If you are interested or have any questions please contact: Wendy Umbrianna at umbrianna.wendy@cusd80.com
wrestling with the truth
November 5th 10:00-11:00 at the Chandler Public Library, Robert Shegog will be sharing his memoirs. He has given numerous talks about diversity and inclusion, even doing a TED Talk.
Coach Shegog, as we still call him today, is one of the oldest living people with HIV. He received his diagnosis in 1986, five years before Magic Johnson. Treatment and outcomes during this time were so poor that contracting the virus was a death sentence. Coach Shegog lost numerous loved ones to the virus and he suffered multiple bouts with the often fatal opportunistic pneumonias. Yet he persisted. Driven by his passion for wrestling, he needed to make sure his students were on track with their classes, able to graduate high school, and ready to continue their postgraduate pursuits. He knew everything about his kids and made sure they knew nothing about him. They never knew when he was sick. They never met the man he loved. They never knew he had to abstain from some critical wrestling moments to be with his dying partner.
He knew coaching wrestling wouldn’t have been an option had people learned the truth about him in the 1980s, 1990s, and possibly in the 2000s. He lived a lie and did so for the sake of his students. Learn about how Robert Shegog navigated these difficult issues in order to be the teacher, coach, father figure, and exemplary role model that inspired multiple generations of students.

Chandler Buddies
What is Chandler Buddies?
The mission of Chandler Buddies is to create a culture of acceptance and inclusion . This club provides opportunities to build one-to-one friendships between individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Here at CHS we have had a lot of success building and maintaining relationships between students with intellectual disabilities and their non-disabled peers. While participating in Chandler Buddies, students have the opportunity to develop the social skills needed to build social confidence and meaningful friendships. Students are paired using questionnaires and by attending "matching" parties.
How can I get involved?
You can participate in chandler buddies as a Buddy, Peer Buddy or as an Associate Member.
Buddy - Buddies are students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. All Buddies are paired with a Peer Buddy and attend all events. Buddies maintain contact with their Peer Buddy and maintain contact with their Peer Buddy at least once a week.
Peer Buddy - Peer Buddies are matched to Buddies and facilitate the one-to-one friendships. Peer Buddies attend all club events, and maintain contact with their Buddy at least once a week.
Associate Member - Associate members attend all Chandler Buddies meetings and events. They are not paired one-to-one with a Buddy, however, interact with all buddies casually throughout the year.
What activities do Chandler Buddies members participate in?
The club gets together once a month for a variety of activities that includes picnics, game nights, movie nights, holiday parties, lip sync battles, making art for the art show, etc.
If you are selected as a peer buddy, you will be paired up with another student. Peer Buddies and Buddies communicate or socialize at least once a week. This can include phone calls, texts, eating lunch, going to a sporting event, dinner and a movie, video games, etc.
