Principal's Message
I'd like to thank all our parent volunteers and the PTO board for the considerable time and effort put forth to enhance the opportunities for learning, and for making the Hilton community such a great place for families and staff. While most parents volunteer for the personal rewards, every child benefits from the interactions with visiting adults.
Read, Read Read
And just like that, the holiday season is upon us. While it's a busy time of year, we all look forward to additional time with family and friends. I hope you will take the opportunity during the upcoming breaks to enjoy a good book with your child. Research shows that exposure to literacy, at any age, increases a child's reading ability. There is a daily focus on building skills and enthusiasm for reading at Hilton. Your support at home will help your child be a confident reader for life. Parents are encouraged to read to their child, or have their child read, for at least 20 minutes each night. The graph below shows the difference when reading is a regular part of a child's day.
Below the graph is a link to website with ideas for building literacy at home.
Literacy News
At your child's recent/upcoming conference, the teacher may have mentioned a reading level. This helps us choose best-fit books for your child to read. These labels are intended to be for books and teachers, NOT to be a label for your child.
Interested in finding a books that are just right for your child or how to read with your child at home?
Check out our Reading at Home link on our literacy website!

PTO Meetings
The next meeting will be held on November 14 at 7 pm in the STEAM Center. Child care and food will be provided. Please join us to offer your support, ideas, and most important, to make this an amazing year for our students.
*New* Artsonia Online Art Gallery
Everyone should have received an email to approve access to Artsonia. The artwork created by our students will be now uploaded to this new online art gallery. You will be able to view your child(ren)’s art online, share with others, create a fan club and order keepsakes. These could make the perfect Holiday gift. Volunteers are still in the process of uploading artwork to this new system. So please keep checking back. If you have not received an email for approval or have any questions, please contact your PTO at HiltonPTO@gmail.com
Hound Dog Run Celebrations
The celebrations were completed this week. The students had a great time with the paint mural on Monday and free popcorn and tattoos on Friday. Thank you to all the volunteers this week. Photos have been posted to the PTO Facebook website for you to enjoy.
Hilton Fall Family Festival (October 26 6pm-8pm)
The Fall Festival is tonight. There will be games, concessions, spirit wear and many other fun filled events. Come dressed in your school appropriate Halloween costume. Hope to see your family there for this wonderful night out.
Hilton Family Movie Night (November 16)
Please mark your calendars. The first family movie night of the year will be held on November 16. This is a free movie night. More information will be posted soon.
Popcorn Friday (November 30)
The next Popcorn Friday will be November 30th. For $0.25 (or a Toe Token) your child(ren) can purchase popcorn popped by Hilton’s parents during lunchtime. To volunteer, just visit https://www.myschoolanywhere.com/join.a5w.
Box Tops (October 31)
Please continue to collect box tops. The next deadline submission will be October 31. We will no longer be sending home Box Top Sheets. You can send them to school in a plastic bag with your child’s name and teachers name on it. In the past, money raised through this program financed the field trip transportation as well as granted up to $100 to each classroom for much needed supplies.
Kroger Shoppers
Hilton is now enrolled in the Kroger Rewards Program. Please support the school by linking us to your Kroger Rewards Card. Our number is 68151 or you can just type our school name in the search window at https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards
Amazon Smile
How fun would it be to shop, while at the same time, earning money for our school? Amazon Smile (https://smile.amazon.com) is through Amazon.com, in which they donate money for most items purchased through their website. The fun part is that the website keeps a running total on your account to see how much money you donate to the school just by shopping with them. Check out this 30 second video to see how you can add a shortcut to your (mobile) home screen to ensure all your Amazon purchases benefit Hilton Elementary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWgglu7ZCDE.
Coca Cola Give
Attention all Coca Cola drinkers! Another way to earn money for Hilton Elementary is through the Coca Cola Give Program. By collecting Coca Cola caps and codes, Hilton can earn money to purchase supplies for physical education, sports, technology and/or arts. Most Coca-Cola beverages that have a product code under its cap, or printed on its paper packaging, are eligible to be used for donation. Here is a link to the reference list of participating brands https://us.coca-cola.com/participating-brands. Please collect these clean items in a plastic bag and send to school with your child. There is a drawer in the office for collections.
Background Check
If you are planning to volunteer at school at all this year, BAS requires a background check. Here is the link to get that done:
