Newsletter - Week 2 Term 1

Greenmeadows School 11 February 2022

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Our second newsletter of the year ... and I am thrilled to say that the children (and staff) have responded so positively to the environment here at school. Our students Year 4 to 6 are coping with the mask wearing mandate beautifully despite the heat.

Thanks to the community for all the support and positive messages we have received. We know dropping your children at the gate is not the preference and our teachers really miss the opportunity to interact freely with parents and whānau. However we are taking this stance to limit the numbers of potential close contacts if/when the COVID virus is found within the Greenmeadows School community.

It has been so heartening to see how the Te Mata School community in Havelock North reacted to the news there were four cases in their school, and have since seen no increase in that number. A great effort by that kura.

Ka kite anō,

Mark Johnson

Principal

RESIGNATION OF MRS KIM COOK

During the holiday break our school librarian made the decision to resign from her position. Kim has worked in our school since 2008. She was initially employed as a Teacher Aide, and then in 2013 became the school librarian. Her leadership of the library has allowed us to meet the vision we set for the school's library back in 2013. And the Greenmeadows School library is a wonderful resource as a result of this.

She has also been responsible for nurturing and engendering a love of reading for so many children. Kim has been an exceptional librarian and we have been very fortunate to have her as a member of our team.

CANTEEN ORDERS

We have a reminder about ordering school lunches on Kindo:-

The cut off time for ordering your child's lunch is 9am on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

In the red setting there will be no juicies or moosies for sale.

Also please make sure you go into the Kindo App and update your child's classroom for 2022.

If you don't do this your child's lunch order will be delivered to the wrong class.

CHILD ABSENCES

If your child is going to be absent from school, please let the school know before 9am on that morning.

The absent text service is NO longer available. Please do not text.

To report your child being away please use the school app. Find the absence button then use the email function.

REMINDER ABOUT PICKING YOUR CHILDREN UP DURING THE SCHOOL DAY & THE REQUIREMENT OF FACIAL COVERINGS

If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please call the office and let the office staff know you are here and at which gate you are waiting.

Carolyn or Sara will ring through to the classroom and have your child sent out to meet you. The office staff will sign your child out on your behalf.

If you do need to come into the office to collect your child from the sickbay or for some other reason, please make sure you are wearing a mask and have scanned in. Many thanks.

SCHOLASTIC LUCKY BOOK CLUB

Lucky Book club order forms are being sent home today. All ordering MUST be done online. Instructions on how to order are on the back of the catalogue.

Closing date for orders online is Friday the 25th February.

NO CASH ORDERS will be accepted.

Parking around our school, particularly at the end of the day is very limited. We have been notified by several members of our community that Parents/caregivers of our school are parking on marked yellow lines, bus stops and over neighbouring properties driveways. Please respect the road markings and ensure you're parked legally around the school when picking up and dropping off your children, thanks.
