8th Grade Graduation Dance Needs

We are still in need of a few items for the 8th grade dance. These big items would be borrowed just for the day on May 24. Pick up time for any items used will be Saturday morning after the dance (5/25). We SO appreciate your donations as it will tremendously help us keep our costs down, which is a priority. Curriculum Corner

As parents, we know the value of having confidence in what we do and how we present ourselves to others. But teaching confidence is not something that can be done without practice. At school, teachers are providing direct and specific feedback to help their students grow as learners. Ex, “I really got a clear picture of your setting through your use of strong adjectives.” Instead of, “Great story.” At home, I was looking for language that could be used to continue to support and develop confidence, without having to be content or school work specific. This article by Corie Kison, identified 55 statements to use with children to help support and develop their confidence and self esteem. Some of the statements that resonated with me were:

  • You are helpful.

  • We can try it your way.

  • It’s good to be curious.

  • You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing.

  • You can try again tomorrow.

  • That was a really good choice.

We all know that words motivate and inspire us to do great things and if positive phrases are used with our children, these positive affirmations will become part of who they are as students and as adults. For more positive things to say to your child, see the full list here.

The next PTO meeting is this Wednesday at 9:00am in the Professional Development Room. We will be discussing the budget for next year and the bylaws, which are available for review on the PTO webpage. All are welcome.

Variety Show this Friday at 4pm & 7pm

Students from all grades were treated to live demonstrations of Art, Dance, Music, & Theater from a wide array of local and regional performers. We are so thankful to the Administration, Staff, and PTO for helping us to organize, plan, and fund such a concentrated festival of talented groups and individuals.
