Photosynthesis & Cell Respiration
By Alyssa Aguilar and Sahithi Arimanda
Photosynthesis
- Occurs in the chloroplast
- Reactants- Carbon Dioxide, Water, and sunlight energy
- Products- Oxygen and Glucose
- Chemical equation- 6CO2 + 6H2O+ light energy → C6H12O6 + 6O2
What occurs during photosynthesis?
- Leaves absorb sunlight energy that captured by the thylakoids in the chloroplast.
- Light energy is changed into chemical energy and temporarily stored in ATP. The roots absorb the water from the soil, then the stem carries the water throughout this process.
- The chemical energy (which was stored) uses carbon dioxide to power the formation of organic compounds
Chloroplast
This is where photosynthesis occurs.
Photosynthesis
Process of photosynthesis.
Plant cell
Photosynthesis occurs only in plant cells.
Cellular Respiration
Aerobic Cellular Respiration
- Breaks down carbohydrates (sugars and starches)
- Oxygen is needed for Aerobic Cellular Respiration
- Reactants- Oxygen and Sugars (glucose)
- Products- Carbon Dioxide, Water, and energy (ATP)
- Occurs inside the mitochondria
What occurs during Cellular Respiration?
- Glucose is broken down and the process in called glycolysis.
- The pyruvate molecules are transferred to the mitochondria. It uses the blood stream to transfer.
- The pyruvate gets converted into a two carbon molecule, the Kreb's cycle starts. Uses the lungs to convert.
- In stage three, the energy in the energy carriers enters an ETC(electron transport chain).During this step, this energy is used to produce ATP. It goes through the small intestine.

Connections
They are similar, because their equations are flipped. Similar effects take place in plants during photosynthesis as what happens in the human body during cellular respiration.
