The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Saturday, September 8th
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
Not to add or create any hysteria but it is important that we are prepared. This weekend many of us are carefully watching what path Tropical Storm Florence will take. Current forecasts predict an increase likelihood that the SC coast will potentially be impacted. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency this afternoon which allows emergency services and the government to prepare for the storm. But McMaster also stated that it is too early to ask for evacuations. It is too early to tell the extent of the anitcipated impact to the Soth Carolina coast. It is just wise to be prepared.
It is Diocesan policy that at minimum St. Francis Catholic School will follow Beaufort Country School District in the event of any school closures. If you want to be up-to-date on any notifications you may check by clicking on the following link. https://www.beaufortschools.net/d_i_s_t_r_i_c_t/about_us/hurricane_florence/
I will communicate any info regarding SFCS and any closures through Smore, RenWeb email, Facebook and our ParentAlert text system. Check that you have the ability to log into ParentsWeb. I have the instructions embedded below.
I ask that you take note on our school calendar of our scheduled weather make up days. In the event that SFCS is closed for an extended period then there is a possibility that we can avoid make up days with students completing lessons at home or offsite. Students may want to bring an extra bag Monday to carry any extra materials home. Again, this is just in preparation and being proactive. We will communicate more information in regards make up days or at home lessons when we know more.
Let us all pray the Florence makes a turn back into the Atlantic!
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope
Principal

The fifth-graders did a STEM activity called, Saving Fred ."They worked together in groups to help Fred the gummy worm get his life saver. The students had to get a gummy Lifesavers over Fred the gummy worm without touching him with their hands. They can only use paperclips to get a life saver over Fred. The groups had to make a hypothesis and a plan of how they were going to do this. All groups succeeded in saving Fred.
