Winter Updates
Quarter Two
From the Attendance Desk:
Winter is fast approaching, and the season can be extreme. However, students are expected to attend school every day and on time unless the district declares a snow day or cold weather day closure. You can access school closures on the spps.org website. If your child is absent from school due to snow and/or cold weather without the district declaring closure he/she would be marked absent unexcused. Also, you will be notified by phone from the district if there is a school closure. Therefore, have a current phone number for your child on file at the school.
Covid Updates and Resources
Families should familiarize themselves with these guidelines, which are updated regularly and cover prevention strategies, health screening and monitoring, exclusion guidance, and the SPPS COVID-19 Reporting System.

Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
Every SPPS family should complete an application for Education Benefits/Free or Reduced Price Meals. Not only does this help us identify families in need of assistance, it also allows the District to receive federal dollars for classroom programming.
A new form must be completed each school year. Additionally, families who have completed an application and have experienced a change in household income or size are encouraged to complete a new application.
How to apply for free and reduced-price lunch?
- Applications can be completed
- online at https://www.schoolcafe.com/spps. (Video Link: SchoolCafe Eligibility Walkthrough For Parents)
- Paper applications are also available in the main office of your child’s school, or can be mailed to your home by request by calling Nutrition Services at 651-603-4950.
- Families who are automatically approved (or “directly certified”) to receive free lunch benefits do not need to fill out an application.
- Families are encouraged to complete applications by December 15 each school year, but applications can be completed at any time of the year.
We will be calling families this week if we have not yet received your form. Please take the time to fill it out online or request a paper form from our office. Forms were sent home with students two weeks ago but we are happy to provide the paper form or any assistance in filling it out.
