Hello Wamsley Families!
We’ve made it 12 full weeks with kids learning in-person and online. Your children are learning, and growing every day regardless of the platform they are learning on, and when classes have had to quarantine, teachers and students haven’t missed a beat. We are so proud of you.
We are wearing masks, washing our hands, cleaning, and disinfecting our schools, physically distancing to the greatest extent possible, and refining our online learning skills. Our teachers, our staff, our families and our students have been working hard to keep us in school.
And now, we need your help to keep our schools open.
Cases of Coronavirus in Garfield County are increasing rapidly. Our hospitals are currently O.K, and we believe that we have not had community spread in our schools, and we need your help to keep it that way. Many of the recent quarantines in Garfield Re-2 could have been avoided.
PLEASE...
If your child has been tested for COVID-19, keep them at home until you get a test result;
If someone in your family has been tested for COVID-19, please keep all of your children at home until you get a test result;
If you or your child were exposed to someone that tested positive for COVID-19, please keep your children home;
If you or your child develops fever, chills, loss of taste, loss of smell, a new persistent cough, or shortness of breath, please keep your children home.
If the test comes back positive, follow the guidance from Garfield County Public Health. If the test comes back negative follow the instructions from your healthcare provider.
We want to keep as many children learning in-person as possible. Regardless of your views on the Coronavirus, we believe you want the same thing. The best way to keep our children in school and our teachers teaching is to wear your mask, wash your hands, physically distance, stay home if sick, and if your child or anyone in your household has been tested for COVID-19, please keep them home until you have a test result.
We are all in this together and we want to provide the best opportunities for your children. If you have any questions please call us at school. We’ll get you in touch with the right people to answer your questions.
Help us keep our schools open. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to give us a call!

Expectations for Virtual Learning Success
We all value and understand the importance of in person learning. However, we have had to pivot to virtual classrooms several times in the past few months. We are all working hard to ensure your children do not lose any of the progress they have shown so far this year. With that in mind, we would like to ask that you adhere to the following expectations during your child’s learning journey at home:
Student is out of bed, dressed, fed, and ready to learn by 8am every day (try to keep your normal school day routine).
Designated learning area for your student away from TV and other distractions.
Chromebook, iPad ready and charged (charger should be close by in case of emergencies).
Online notebook and a pencil ready for the day at their learning area (we provided a notebook in every child’s backpack).
We realize we are in your home during virtual learning and understand that this is inconvenient and burdensome at times. In order for your child to get the most out of virtual learning, they need your support in following the daily schedule. During school hours, students are expected to “be in school” by participating in the virtual classroom with the teacher. Please have your children do their chores before school, after school, or during lunch or recess. If students leave the class to run an errand, to feed the dog or clean up a mess, they miss out on directions and instruction, and when they come back they are lost and do not know what to do. It interrupts everyone’s learning when the teacher has to stop and give directions over to a child that left for a short time. With your help, we can all make online learning a success for everyone!

First Grade
What an interesting year it has been so far, but first graders have been resilient! We know it has been a very different school year, but we love seeing students still learning and connecting online. In math, we are learning about adding 3 numbers together, number partners, and greater than/less than. In writing, we have been describing things using adjectives. We will be writing facts about different topics in the next two weeks. In reading, we are looking at different word endings such as -ed, -ing, and -er. We are also practicing reading our Superkids stories fluently. In social studies, students are learning about different kinds of communities. Later this month, we will talk about economics. At home, students can practice reading the stories we are working on in class in Superkids Online Fun. They can also complete homework pages and practice reading fluency on the weekly homework slides in SeeSaw.

Fourth Grade
November ended up being a crazy month with all of us transitioning to online learning. The 4th Grade teachers have really appreciated all your help in getting your children online and working throughout the day. In reading, we continued using informational texts to learn about scientific concepts. In writing, we continue to work on writing five paragraph informational essays. In math, we started our unit on multi-digit multiplication and division. In science, we started our Physical Science unit. We are acting as physicists to understand different types of matter and energy. In social studies, we began our Colorado History unit. Students have been learning about the native american cultures that have lived in Colorado. Thank you for all you do to support your child’s education.
