Who Was Nelson Mandela?

Nelson Mandela was the first black president of south Africa, He also won a noble peace prize, he was a global advocate for human rights who passed away in 2013 at the age of 95.

What Did Nelson Mandela Do?

He fought to make south Africa a better place and stayed deeply involved with civil rights protesting throughout his life and even ended up spending 27 years locked away due to his protesting.

Nelson Mandela Childhood

Rolihahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in the village of Mvezo, transkei. When he was only 12 his father, Nonquaphi Nosekeni died. He picked up the name Nelson in primary school from his teacher because they gave every child "Christian Names". He renounced his claim to the chieftainship to be a lawyer, attending south African native college and also later attending Witwatersrand University to study law.

Where Would The World Be Without Nelson Mandela?

Without Nelson Mandela South Africa would be a very different place. Because of him Africa is now a free democratic nation. During his presidency he established the truth and reconciliation commission which investigated human rights violations. he also introduced housing and education.
