A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...
Dear Osbourn Family,
Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you to all of our mothers out there. This is your day, enjoy it, you deserve it. We celebrate you every day. I can’t believe that we are so close to the end of the year. Getting to this point seems to be miraculous considering all of the obstacles and situations we have been forced to deal with. But we continue to march forward and to find a way. Students, this is the time to work on your grades and get all of your work in. You can do it. Please don’t wait until the last week of school. This is the ideal time to retake assessments to demonstrate mastery and excel in all of your classes.
I received the preliminary National Merit Scholarship Results for the 2022 process. I am proud to say that we have two students from Osbourn who are on the list who were at or above the selection index score and are among the highest-scoring participants nationwide! Our two students who will be considered for this distinction are Jacquelyn Hertz and Tyler Husband, congratulations!
I also want to share some more good news with you: the recipient of the PWSLA Elizabeth W. Bowen Memorial Scholarship is Nemya McGill-Veloso, a senior at Osborn High School! OHS students have won this regional award two years in a row.
A friendly reminder to our current 11th graders to get your required meningitis vaccination before school starts in August. This is required, please contact our school nurses with any questions.
AP testing will be taking place from May 18-28 with both at home digital and in-person testing, depending on the subject. Please make sure you are checking your MCPS email regularly for the most up to date testing information. If you have any questions or need additional information, please reach out to our AP Coordinator, Ms. Colassard.
A special shout-out to our Girls’ Soccer team for their win over Unity Reed High School, the Boys’ Lacrosse team for defeating Potomac High School, the Softball team victory over Seton, Girls Lacrosse team for their big win over Gar-Field High School and the Boys’ Soccer team for their win over Patriot High School. We are also very proud of our Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis teams, Track teams, and our Baseball team. Our students are excelling in multiple ways!
Thank you for all that you do to support our students and our school community and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,
Mike Pflugrath

Vaccinations as it relates to Quarantine and Graduation
Per the current Virginia Department of Health guidelines, individuals who are fully vaccinated (i.e., > 2 weeks following receipt of the 2nd dose in a 2-dose series or > 2 weeks following a dose of a 1-dose vaccine) AND who remain asymptomatic since the COVID-19 exposure are not required to quarantine. The same applies to individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 within the past 3 months, as long as the individual does not develop new symptoms. This exception to quarantine has been followed in our contact tracing efforts including with students as they become eligible for vaccination or we learn of and can confirm a recovery. Please contact the School Nurses with any questions at 571-377-7012.
Congratulations Seniors!
Graduation is right around the corner! I hope you and your family are excited to celebrate. Graduation will be held on Friday, May 28th at 7:00 pm at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, students will be permitted only four (4) guests.
Please use the link below to request or decline your allotted tickets. Each guest over the age of 2 will be required to have a ticket to enter the venue. In order to assure you receive your requested ticket amount, you MUST complete this form by no later than Wednesday, May 12th at 4:00 pm!
Tickets will be distributed at a senior meeting in May—details forthcoming.

Pass/Fail Grading Option for Final Course Grades for the 2020-21 School Year
Parents and students please read the revised grading regulation that has been approved for the end of this school year.
A student in a high school credit-bearing course may choose to take a pass or fail final grade in lieu of a final course percentage grade. If a student chooses this option, the student or parent must contact the teacher by May 14, 2021. If a student elects to take a course pass or fail, the pass or fail grade will not be calculated into the student’s cumulative GPA. Students with final course averages of 59% or below will automatically receive a fail in lieu of a final course percentage grade.
If you have questions please feel free to reach out to your teacher or assigned counselor.
