NHS will be holding a BICYCLE DRIVE!

NHS Bike Drive

Why: To help provide those in need with a mode of transportation

When: Saturday, March 16th from 9 AM to 12 PM

Where: Drop off by George Harding Field

Please consider donating new/used bikes to this cause

Adult bikes preferred but any size is acceptable

SENIOR PARENTS: Call to DONATE MARIAN SWEATERS!

Each year, we have been able to provide several families FREE uniforms thanks to the generous donations of our graduating families!

As our seniors celebrate NO MORE SWEATERS EVER - please consider donating any sweaters in good repair back to the school. Not only would you be helping out future students, but you will also help keep our school safe as we prevent our uniforms from general public donation circulation.

Our wonderful NHS students will have collection boxes available in the Social Science wing - or you can send in your sweaters to the front office and we will make sure they are ready for our FREE Used Uniform event at the beginning of the summer!

Practice ACT Testing RETURNS to the MC LIBRARY! Reserve your spot NOW!

The Marian Central Catholic H. S. Library is offering an opportunity for Sophomores and Juniors to take a complete practice ACT test, spread out over two after-school sessions. The testing will take place on March 14 (2:30 - 5:00) and March 15 (2:30 - 4:00). These are official practice tests from ACT, and students will receive scaled scores for each test section and subsection. This is an opportunity for Marian students to get an idea of the types of questions they will be seeing on the real test. They will also experience the ACT testing environment, complete with proctored instructions, ACT rules, and more than one test in one sitting.

We have only 5 seats left for the test.

If you are interested, please print the form linked below, complete the signature block, and return it to the Marian library no later than March 11. You will be notified by e-mail once your form has been received. Watch the Marian website for up- to-date information on the number of seats available.

STRONGER TOGETHER: Parents' Association NEEDS YOU!

As our own kids graduate, we find ourselves planning our own graduation of sorts! Most of our Parent Association officer positions will be in need of dynamic, caring new leadership!

Interested? Please contact our current MCCPA Presidents Mrs. Lori Lee or Mrs. Dawn Hines! We would be thrilled to tell you all about the various positions open for next year, and how you can make a difference!

The more parents we have that help lead this wonderful organization, the more impactful we can be for Marian Central and all the teachers and students who call it home.

COLLEGE COUNSELOR'S CORNER

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…sometimes other people are just better at giving advice than I am.

This is one of those cases. On the heels of my post in last week’s Friday Focus, I offer thoughts/advice from The Washington Post’s Elizabeth Heubeck on helping students deal with college rejection. Heubeck’s defining “rejection” in this sense as “not being admitted to a top choice school”, but I’ll expand the definition to include “realizing that a top choice school isn’t affordable”; in other words, financial rejection.

Heubeck’s advice seems like one of those things someone would read and say “Easier said than done!” But really and truly, the advice she provides is good and intended to help students learn and grow from the rejection experience. Heaven knows they’ll face it many more times in the future.

Here's the link to Heubeck’s article. As always, I hope you’ll find it helpful:

It's Time to Collect SENIOR BABY PHOTOS for the Yearbook!

Dear Marian Senior Family,

It is the time of the year where the yearbook, The Memorare, is collecting baby photos of the Senior class. Photos should be appropriate and tend to be around ages 6 months-2 years. We ask that these photos be clear and scannable.

Senior students will be turning in their baby photos to their English teacher. We will return these photos in the same condition, we just ask that the following information is provided on the back of the photo:

Student’s printed FULL name

English Teacher’s Name & Class Period

*STUDENT’S PARENTS MAY CHOOSE TO EMAIL THE IMAGES AS WELL! THEY NEED TO EMAIL THE JPEG IMAGE TO “kgallagher@marian.com” AND HAS TO IDENTIFY THEIR STUDENT WITH FIRST AND LAST NAME! MUST BE IN JPEG FORMAT!!!

If your student(s) chooses not to submit a photo, he or she will have no smaller photo next to their official portrait. The space will simply be left blank. To guarantee every Senior has a photo, we ask that students bring their photos in NO LATER than Thursday, March 14th, 2018. We will return the photos once they have been successfully scanned into our system.

Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Gallagher (kgallagher@marian.com). We look forward in creating a lifetime of memories for the Class of 2019!

Sincerely, The 2018-2019 Memorare Editors and Staff
