Tamanend's Celebrate Education Week Special Edition
Every week is "Celebrate Education Week" at Tamanend. We are always striving to make learning engaging and relevant while including parents in the success equation.
Here are photos of some of the great learning activities that happened this week.
Hands-On (or up) Science
Parents visited Mrs. Wilhelm's Science class to participate in a hands-on lab to prove the Law of Conservation of Mass.
Teacher & Parent Luncheon
Parents of 9th Graders enjoyed a lunch social with Freshman Team Teachers.
UNICEF Assembly
7th Grade Service Project: Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Students learned about UNICEF and all that it does in their different classes throughout the day.
Trench Warfare
Mr. Heisey's students discovered realities of WWI Trench Warfare. Students navigated "trenches" while analyzing primary sources to explore the question: When should the U.S. go to war?
Spanish & Art Integration
Sra. Corsino's Spanish II students learned about famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, known for her self-portraits. Then, with the help of TMS Art Teacher, Mrs. McCain, the students tried their hand at their own self-portrait.
Parents Learn Technology
TMS Librarian, Mrs. Holloway, presented to Parent Council the online tools and resources available to students (and parents) through the TMS Library Web Site.
Fall Pep Rally
Our Student Council did a great job organizing our Pep Rally! Thanks to our Pep Band, Julia F. and "Dance Tam," our pep rally was full of spirit and talent.
Bringing Life to Studying Stars
8th Grade Science: students study the life cycle of a star then bring their findings to life using MovieMaker.
Student vs. Faculty Volleyball Game
The Freshman Team put together a challenge for our teachers, but the teachers prevailed keeping their undefeated streak intact.

- Clip and send in Box Tops to the attention of NJHS; or, shop at the Box Top Market Place where you will find vendors such as Best Buy, KMart, Justice and more.
- If you like to shop online, check out the eScrip Online Mall. When you sign up for an account, selecting Tamanend earns money for our school.
- When you recycle your paper using our Abitibi bin located at the back of our Main Parking Lot, you have not only helped the environment, you help TMS, too.
Highlighted in a Previous TMS Update:
- DUE TODAY!!! October's Boomerang Asset is Responsibility: young person accepts and takes personal responsibliity for his/her behavior. We know we have many responsible students at Tamanend... We've got R.oA.R., after all! Please join us in making sure we recognize our students who are responsible at home and in the community. Nominate a TMS students using our online nomination ballot by October 22.
- We need parents, students and staff for our Wellness Committee. If you are interested in helping with a fitness program after school, starting a vegetable garden in our courtyard, or have some other ideas to help our students and staff "go green" and stay fit, please contact Mrs. Mary McDonald, Mrs. Lauren Myrtetus and Ms. Brenda Scheffey about becoming involved in our Wellness Committee.
- Mrs. Myrtetus, TMS School Nurse, will be collecting clean, gently used coats from Tamanend families for CBSD families who need them from Monday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 31. Please conceal previous ownership by removing family names from the coat(s). For more information on this 19-year CB service project, click here.
- Tamanend will hold its Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 9th. As part of the assembly, we are asking for photos of Tamanend students pictured with military personnel to be presented as a video montage. The photos of TMS students can include both current students and alumni. If you have pictures to share, please submit them to Mr. Brian Blair by November 1, 2012 or email him at bblair@cbsd.org.
Students currently taking an Algebra course will take the PA Keystone Exam in Algebra this year, unless they took the Algebra Keystone two years ago and were proficient.
