Lantern Road Construction
FES Family,
I’ve created a short video about the road construction that is happening along Lantern Road. You can access that here: https://youtu.be/kyIIajrvnOg
As you may have noticed, there is construction happening along Lantern Road. We recently learned that this construction will be impacting FES. Now that we have a full understanding of what is happening, we wanted to share that with you. Here are some dates you should be aware of:
- February 10-14 (Next week, Monday – Friday) – The construction will be on the section of road between the north and south entrance of the front looping parking lot. Beginning on February 10th, the only access to the school parking lot (for drop off, pick up, or any school events) will be from the south (via 106th St.). Buses will be able to exit school to the north, but there will not be entrance from the north. Morgan Drive will not have access to Lantern Road beginning February 10th.
- February 15-17 (Next weekend) – The construction will be in front of the north entrance of the loop. You will be able to access school from the south and from Morgan Drive.
Beginning February 18th the construction work will continue to move northward along Lantern Road, and we have been told that all construction for this phase of the project will finish by spring break.
Due to this construction, we have requested the support of Officer Guy from the Fishers Police Department to be present at morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. I would highly encourage you to consider having your students ride the bus as much as possible in the coming weeks as our traffic flow will be impacted by the construction that is going on.
Have a great day!

Second Step Home Links
We are continuing our Social Emotional learning using the Second Step curriculum. Students in every grade level have covered topics such as skills for learning, empathy and emotional management. Through the month of March, we will be learning more about problem solving and growing our problem- solving skills.
Below are home links for the Second Step lessons. You can review with your child the concepts that the classrooms have already covered and look ahead to what they will be learning.
These are a great way to get involved in the Social Emotional learning of your child.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me.
Thanks!

EQUITY CORNER
What makes you 'you'?
Students at FES are looking at what makes them unique and transferring this to the books they are reading. Many of them are able to find themselves in their books - we call these "mirror books". When we are able to see characters in books that reflect our own unique qualities, these are referred to as mirror books.
On the other side, when we are able to experience a character's point of view that is different than our own, these types of books are referred to as "window books". Window books allow us different views of worlds that are real or imagined, familiar or strange and often reveal things we would otherwise not experience.
These are the types of conversations our teachers are having with students throughout our school. What are you reading that either reflects who you are or allows you to see another's world?

Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide
The mission of the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide is clear - to prevent youth abuse and save lives. Our team is dedicated to creating awareness that 95% of abuse is preventable and providing critical resources necessary to give hope to those who have lost their way. We will work with our communities to make sure that evidence-based curriculum is in place, so both youth and adults, can be empowered to protect, prevent, and create a personal mission to end abuse, once and for all.
Good Afternoon Fishers Elementary Families,
Indiana Center for the Prevention of Youth Assistance and Suicide (formerly Chaucie’s Place) will be visiting FES again this school year the week of January 27th. Their body safety curriculum, Child Lures Prevention, Think First & Stay Safe, will be presented to students. The lesson will provide relevant, balanced and proven prevention strategies to help families and children increase awareness and knowledge of how to recognize, interrupt, stop and prevent these crimes. As a community, we must think of childhood sexual abuse as a preventable disease. Collaboration between educators, parents and guardians, the medical community, law enforcement and our communities-at-large can proactively protect our children before abuse ever happens.
Topics to be covered:
For K-6 (elementary) we will discuss:
· Using our brains to keep us safe
· Bullying
· Body safety and the idea “my body belongs to me.”
· Brainstorm trusted adults
· The difference between secrets and surprises
· Trusting our “guts” or innate feelings
· The idea that everyone is special
Trained professionals will provide a 45 minute lesson. Teachers will be present in each classroom during the lesson. Mrs. Lance, FES school counselor, will be available if students have further questions or concerns. A parent resource video can be viewed by visiting thier website at www.indianaprevention.org and selecting the “Our programs” tab at the top right hand of the page. If you would like your child to NOT participate in this program or have further questions or concerns, please contact Mrs.Lance.
Thank you!
