Principal's Corner
Dear Montclair Families,
A special thank you to all our Veteran's for their service to our country! This past Thursday we were excited to honor our Montclair school community veterans with our recognition and appreciation program. We are proud of our Veterans and thank you for protecting our nation!
In preparation for the possibility of inclement weather this winter, students will begin bringing home devices from school as part of our Code Orange procedures. This will begin sometime during the week after Thanksgiving. Look for details from classroom teachers about devices traveling to and from school.
Code Orange is when school buildings close, but synchronous instruction occurs virtually. Here is the PWCS Weather Codes FAQ's link for more information.
The Code Orange school schedule is as follows:
9-11am virtual instruction
11-12pm lunch/recess break
12-2pm virtual instruction
Students access virtual links through their teachers' classroom Canvas page. Students are counted as present for school when they log in and turn on cameras.
Thank you Montclair Families!
Mr. Slayter and Mr. Miller
Digital Device Handbook
As devices go home it is crucial that care and responsibility are used. Please take a moment to look at the Digital Device Handbook.
It is very important that devices are returned to school each day. Not having your device at school will not be an excuse for not participating in class or completing assignments. An alternative paper pencil task will be provided. Montclair does not have "extra" devices to loan students when a device is forgotten. the ipads
*Please keep food and water away from all devices.
*Please carry devices with 2 hands.
*Please do not leave device on the floor.
*Please close up device when not in use.
*When traveling to and from school, devices should be powered off.
Office News
Parents, guardians and family members,
Please remember that out of an abundance of caution, PWCS schools require an ID check before releasing students to leave school. Bring your ID, if you are picking up from the main office, the clinic or for car riders (if you forget your dashboard number sign). Our aim is to keep our students safe! Thank you for your cooperation.
Effective Nov. 1, the last early pick up from the office will be at 3:10. Should you arrive after this time, you will be asked to pick up your child as a walker when students dismiss.
Tutoring Opportunities
Montclair Elementary school is currently recruiting tutors for part time hourly pay for three days a week. Tutors would work with small groups during the school day under the direction of a classroom teacher. To apply, visit this link:

Read, Read, Read
Books make great gifts! If you are looking for recommendations, check out the Virginia State Literacy Association (VSLA) website for this year’s Virginia Readers’ Choice winners. Each year the VSLA sponsors a contest to encourage young readers to broaden students’ awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure. In the Spring, students throughout Virginia vote on the nominated books and the winners are announced. Click the links to see this year's winners and the 2022-2023 winners. Happy Reading!

2023 Impact Aid Survey
2023 Impact Aid survey is now live in ParentVUE.
Impact Aid is a federal education program that reimburses school districts for lost revenue and additional costs due to the presence of nontaxable federal property (such as military installations, national parks, federal office buildings, and Veterans Affairs hospitals) in a community.
Impact Aid can be used for any general fund purpose, such as instructional materials, teacher salaries, transportation, technology, social-emotional support, and facility improvements.
Please complete the Impact Aid survey even if you are not federally connected. PWCS receives Impact Aid funds for every military-connected family and most families with a federal civilian employee who complete the survey. The deadline to complete the survey is Thursday, November 30.
Additional information regarding Impact Aid can be accessed on the U.S. Department of Education’s Impact Aid webpage.
School Nurse
Mrs. Walker would like the community to know that hearing tests will be given to all Kindergarten, 3rd, and all new students to our school on Thursday, November 16.
