Compass 2020: Power On Alanton & Reach for the Stars!
April 18-22
Thank You, Dodgeball Players & Fans!
- What a great evening!!! Love you all!
Also, a message from the SCA Advisor:
Dear Charlene, Oh my goodness! What an absolutely awesome staff you have!!! How great were you guys?! We had so much fun at Dodgeball! I kind of think this should be something we grow every year together! We raised over 2,500 dollars and that was just putting it together in a few weeks! I am so very proud of our kids and staff...words cannot explain! I have TONS of pictures coming your way (the pics I attached are from my cell phone- I will have my SCA put together all the pics they took on professional cameras and share them). PLEASE tell your staff that we appreciate SO much everything they did and all they gave for the cause. We are so happy to support the Kovalcheck family and Breast Cancer Awareness and would absolutely LOVE to work with Alanton again! You are the MOST fun out of any elementary school we have ever worked with- No doubt!
Thank you again! Jenny Nardelli

REVIEW OF THE SCIENCE STANDARDS OF LEARNING AND SCIENCE STANDARDS OF LEARNING CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK
The Virginia Board of Education has authorized the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to proceed with the Science Standards of Learning and the Science Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework review process. It is anticipated that the review will be completed by January 2018, as set forth in the VDOE Superintendent’s Memo #052-16.
As part of the review process, the VDOE is seeking comments from teachers, administrators, supervisors, and other members of the public. Please encourage school personnel to provide comments on the current standards and framework. Information regarding the timeline, including the e-mail address for submitting public comments, may be found at the Science Standards of Learning Review Web site. The Science@doe.virginia.gov e-mail address will be open to receive comments from March 11 to April 18.
The VDOE is also looking for individuals to serve on a committee to make recommendations on both the Science Standards of Learning and the Science Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework during the summer of 2016. Applicants must be teachers, principals, administrators, content specialists or other educators who have expertise with the science content areas and the standards.
Individuals who are interested in serving on the Science Standards of Learning review committee must submit an electronic application through the Web-based process, Instruction Committee Application Processing System (ICAPS). Completed applications are due to the VDOE through ICAPS by April 18. Applicants will be notified of their selection status by May 6.
Questions may be directed to Katie Niehoff, elementary science coordinator, at Kathleen.Niehoff@vbschools.com. Thank you.
