Life before the Consitution
by Tyler Hemmings
I am a farmer. I live in western Massachusetts. I am struggling a lot because I have a small amount of land. I grow only enough to feed myself with some left over to sell in town. I am badly in debt.the bank that lent me money now demands payment right away. and I am not able to pay my state taxes.
I am a shoemaker.I live in Manchester, New Hampshire.I work in a small shop where I am paid according to the number of the shoes I make.Times are hard right now. I had to go into debt for $50 to buy my tools when I went into this line of work, right after the Revolutionary War ended. I figured the money would be easy to repay because my state government was issuing paper money.
