PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
F2F and Virtual:
Half-way Day is coming Friday, Feb. 12th. This day is half-way through the 3rd nine weeks. Parents and students are encouraged to take a look at INow on this date to determine student progress. Teachers have been asked to have grades updated by 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 12th.
Pink Shirt Week is coming February 22 - 26, 2021. We're asking everyone to "Leave Your Mark With Kindness." T-shirt sales will open up soon. We are using the same design as last year. Shirts are $5 on myschoolfees.
Students, please do your part by distancing and staying home if you do not feel well. Parents, please continue to take your child's temperature each morning. We are having students who do not feel well checking out during 1st or 2nd period. Please try to catch this before your child leaves home. This is not the season for "try to make it through the day, honey." We need your help here.
The opportunity to sign up to take afour-week "Self-paced Elective" during Activity Period will be available Wednesday, Feb. 24th. Students can choose from Exploratory Spanish, Exploratory French, Health, Online Learning, Computer Applications A, and Computer Applications B.
Stay tuned for more information on changing Learning Options for 4th nine weeks. The district has not released a date yet.
The Bumpus Science Fair is around the corner. If you would like to contribute prizes for the top three, honorable mentions, and/or student swag bags, contact Carol Lollar, clollar@hoover.k12.al.us

NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELORS
Kindness makes YOU happy! While we typically think of Kindness or acts of kindness as something that benefits others, research shows that Kindness greatly benefits the person doing the kind act as well, which then causes a significant increase in their happiness and overall well-being. Try it for yourself! Challenge yourself to act with kindness this week and see how you feel! We are sure you will notice the benefits. We believe that Kindness is contagious....so let's keep it going!
Pink Shirt Day is Wednesday, February 24, 2021. We will be celebrating Kindness all week from February 22-26, 2021. Be kind and wear pink!
Please visit www.Kindness.org for more information.

WHAT'S NEW!
DAILY ATTENDANCE - MRS. PHILLIPS
Please email Mrs. Phillips at aphillips@hoover.k12.al.us or call (205) 439-2268.
A parent/doctor note is still required within three (3) days of returning in order to excuse an absence or check-in/out and can be emailed to Mrs. Phillips or dropped in the excuse boxes in the main lobby or throughout the school. Please include the student’s full name on the parent note. ***Quarantine related absences MUST be cleared with Nurse Schmith at x2230 or mschmith@hoover.k12.al.us.
ANTICIPATED ABSENCE FORMS - If it is necessary for your student to be gone from school for such events as family events, trips, dance recitals, travel sports, etc., it is necessary for them to complete an Anticipated Absence Form and turn it in within 3 days of the absence, so that the absence may be excused. This form is available on the Bumpus Middle School website, or in the 2nd floor office.
There is a section on the form to be completed, with the reason for the absence, and signed by the parent, then the student fills in his schedule and obtains the signatures of his teachers, and submits it to the 2nd Floor Office for administrator approval. Approval is based on the student's grade averages and current attendance record. After the signature is obtained, Mrs. Phillips in the 2nd office will enter the absence into INow. Please note: if the student only plans to be gone for part of a day, he or she needs to enter the time of checkout, and get the signatures of only the teachers whose classes they will miss. Also, there is no need to obtain signatures from virtual teachers, (although they should be notified by email of the absence and the form emailed to Mrs. Phillips).

CHROMEBOOKS
Students Tip: Make sure your Chromebook is updated.
How to UPDATE CHROMEBOOKS:
1. Click the bottom right corner of the Chrome OS desktop (It shows the time).
2. Select the Settings icon (It looks like a gear).
3. Click About Chrome OS (bottom left).
4. Click Check for Updates.
5. To apply the update, click the arrow icon and select Restart to Update.
You may be able to fix some Chromebook problems yourself. Watch this video for great tips and save yourself a trip to the school and a week of downtime.
BEFORE you consider bringing your Chromebook up to the school for repair, keep in mind a few important details:
The Chromebook repair process will take longer than usual due to the precautions our staff will take to stay safe. This includes a quarantine time period before we pass it off to the technician.
Only critical repairs will be processed at this time (as in, the Chromebook doesn't work and learning can't take place). Unnecessary or uncritical repairs will be sent back to the student.
After completing the Chromebook repair request, you may drop off your device at the front desk during school during office hours.
