Building a Community
Thank you to all who were able to attend Back to School Night. We appreciated having you in our space and having a little feel about what parts of our day are like in KA. For those of you who were unable to attend, have no fear- we made handouts. Please let us know if you would like one and we will send it home in backpacks.
The last two weeks has been filled with practicing routines, such as lining up, walking in the lobby, and moving safely in our space. We are learning how to take care of each other and our space. One of the ways that we do this is by checking in with friends when they are hurt at recess. We practice helping up friends who have fallen down or have been accidentally knocked down. We offer them a hand to help them up, and then verbally check in to see if they need help from a teacher or not.
We are also working on taking care of our classroom and school environment. Throughout the day we take time to clean our classroom. We use wet wipes to clean our tables, we push chairs in at tables, we use a broom and dustpan to clean the floors, and a push vacuum to clean the carpets. By helping to take care of our classroom and shared spaces, we are beginning to see the spaces as ours and are taking ownership over it.
Our IB Learner profile of the month is Caring. We will continue to explore how we take care of people, spaces, and ourselves. We read books, we problem solve, we share personal experiences, and we role play.
As we have introduced academics to our day, we have been adding more and more letters to our sounds in Motion. Please check in with your child each day about the new Sounds in Motion s/he has learned. By developing a strong connection between the sound and the motion, students will begin seeing themselves as Readers and Writers!

We learn and grow in every way

Built together you and me.
We all work together towards the goals we share.
Become better citizens,
Compassionate and caring friends.
And learn and grow in every way (3x)
From our Social Work Office
Dear Parents,
I wanted to pass along information on several workshops offered by the Child Study Center at the Hassenfeld Children's Hospital of New York at NYU Langone. This is a wonderful New York City resource available for parents and educators. For a comprehensive list of event options, as well as a detailed description of each event, please visit this link:

Ooh La La! ART Update!
Kinder artist are off and running! They love our new studio!
In our first class together, we read Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn because hands are so important with ART making. To emphasize the importance of strengthening hands (and learning studio routines) we’ve been working with modeling clay. K-Artists love it! Check out the photos below!
If you don’t already have some modeling clay at home, think about picking some up. FYI: In the studio we have just one color to emphasize “form.”
Support Your Artist — and the Studio!
As you know, there’s so much art in NYC! Please spend time looking at art with your student. Consider collecting the following supplies (with your artist) for the studio: dryer lint, plastic bottle caps, corks, game pieces, buttons in bulk, tubes, etc.
