Macleans Primary School Newsletter
In ThIs Newsletter
Hi Everyone!
I hope you enjoy the 'new' newsletter format. As always, so much going on here at MPS, with of course the main focus of our vision being learning. It is always very pleasing to see the amount of connection, or home-school partnership, we have with our community; these days we are limited with our 'face to face', but online connection is strong as seesaw, zooms, phone calls and emails between home and school are very regular. I do enjoy saying 'hi' on most days with mums and dads before and after school. However, and regardless of covid-19 restrictions and guidelines, this will always happen. Our home-school partnership will once again extend itself to the learning conferences beginning next week. Bookings are now live for the conferences to be held Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 March. Please note that MPS is closing at 12 noon on Thursday 10 March to allow for conferences up to 7pm. Also note that a covid-19 update email was ent out last Saturday, 26 February.
All the best and kia kaha. Nga Mihi.

Covid-19: Staffing During CPF Red Light Phase 3
When staff are sick, or self isolating at home, we will employ a relieving teacher. If this is not possible we will use our teaching staff who are not teaching a classroom or, depending on numbers, combine classes within that bubble/group. When teaching staff are identified as COVID positive, then children in their class MAY become close contacts and will be asked to isolate at home. Home learning packs are be available and we will offer online programmes as much as possible, remembering that the teacher is sick and regular or any interaction between the teacher and student/class may not happen. If we are unable to guarantee staffing levels for our tamariki under health and safety guidelines, the School Board in consultation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, will make the decision to close the school for face to face tuition. Interactive with the teacher through Online would then be available. At the moment teams are managing the distance learning themselves. Closing the school would be a very last resort.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
There are 3 days of zoom parent-teacher conferences coming up next week:
- Tuesday 8 March: 3.15pm to 4.30 pm
- Wednesday 9 March: 3.15pm to 4.30pm
- Thursday 10 March: 1 pm to 7pm (note school closes at 12 noon)
You can schedule your interview at School Interviews HERE. The code to use is knf74. Teachers will be sharing the link for the meeting next week, so please be sure to check your emails a few hours at the lates before your scheduled conferences. Teachers have allowed up to 15 minutes per conference, with a goal for the conference to be around 12 minutes. The 2-3 minutes before the next conference will allow the teacher to prepare for the conference. If more discussion is needed, please organise another time with the teacher.
**Please note that teachers will be sharing the student learning pathways through seesaw PRIOR to the conferences**
*Please also note that we will need to 'cut-off' the online bookings at 3 pm the day before the interviews to allow for the online meeting addresses to be sorted. If you are unable to book the time you want because the cut-off time has been reached, please contact your child's teacher through email to arrange an appointment**

Vaccine Information & Vaccination Event From Counties Manukau District Health Board Vaccination
Counties Manukau DHB and Whanau Ora Healthcare is organising a special drive-through pop-up vaccination event for schools in Pakuranga, Howick, Flat Bush and the surrounding area. This event is part of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for tamarki (5 to 11 years). Other vaccines, dose 1 and 2 and boosters for adults will also be available. This will be a fun event for the whole whaanau, including kai trucks, entertainment, prizes and giveaways. The new Omicron strain of the virus is highly infectious which means it can be passed on from person to person much more easily than ever before. The vaccine is the best way that we can keep our community safe from COVID-19 and reduces the risk of becoming very ill from the virus (the likelihood of ending up in hospital from COVID-19 is significantly reduced). Although tamariki have a lower risk of getting really sick from COVID-19, the vaccine reduces the risk further especially for children with other health conditions. Everyone over the age of 5 years is now eligible to have their FREE COVID-19 vaccine – the vaccine for tamariki between the ages of 5 and 11 years was approved prior to Christmas and tens-of-thousands of children in NZ have now joined the millions of kids worldwide who have had their jab. You do not need to book – simply turn up on the day! Please make sure you and your whaanau have face coverings and if possible, bring your NHI number.
Sat 5th March from 9am to 3pm at Ormiston Sr. & Jr. College, 275/285 Ormiston Rd. Flatbush
