December 14th
Math
This week we continued our measurement unit by learning about capacity. We discovered that capacity is how much an object can hold. We used various containers and filled them with water, sand, and rice to find out their capacity. We discussed which container held more or less by comparing the containers. We also counted the number of scoops it would take to fill a container.
Social Studies
All week, we have traveled the world. We learned that many people celebrate different holidays all over the world. We learned a little bit about how these holidays are similar and different than the holidays we celebrate with our families. We started the week by making a passport and packing our suitcase. We created a boarding pass before getting on our plane and traveling to the location. Upon arrival to the location, we received a stamp for our passport and colored in the location on our map. While in that country we learned about some of the special traditions of these different cultures. Before returning to Goodrich we created a souvenir from each place. We visited the Netherlands, Israel, China, Mexico, and Germany. All of the items we made are coming home today in our suitcases!
Reading
We have continued to use our super powers to become better readers. We continued practicing our pointer power by pointing to each word when reading. Partner power is a lot of fun when we use the help of our partner to read stories. We also found out that we can use picture power to help us read words by using picture clues.
Lockdown Drill Next Week
We will have our first lockdown drill on Wednesday, December 19th. For this drill, there will be an announcement to let us know to lock our doors and keep the children out of sight. For us, we will sit in a corner of the room and read a story. There will be a police officer in the building to supervise the drill. We will let the students know that we practice in case of a dangerous situation in the building. We ensure that it is not scary and just another drill to help keep us safe. The drill usually lasts less than 10 minutes.
