History and geography

The U.K. joined the EU in 1973. The U.K. was part of the Roman Empire. The U.K. is a fairly small island off the coast of Belgium and the Netherlands. The English Channel separates it from the mainland. The U.K. consists of 4 countries, England, Scottland, Wales, and Ireland. The highest peak is Ben nevis, at 4,409 ft tall.

Government

The U.K. holds a constitutional monarchy. The prime minister is the head of the government and the House of Lords helps them "choose" the queen. The monarch appoints the prime minister and is the commander-in-chief of military forces.

Flag

Their flag is a combination of the original flag of England, Scottland, and Ireland. Before 1801, the flag was just a combination of the English and Scottish flag. After 1801, Northern Ireland joined the U.K. adding the red X to the flag.

Currency

Their currency is the British pound. One pound is equal to 1.51 USD

Capital and Cities

The Capital of the U.K. is London, England. Other major cities are Birmingham, Glascow, Livepool, and Bristol. London is 5 hours ahead of us.

Tourism

Some major tourist attractions of the U.K. are the London tower. Big Ben is also very popular, which holds the world time. The stonehenge is also popular which are ancient ruins.

1. Almost 6,000 people either get hurt or die from tripping over their trousers. Others fall down the stairs while trying to pull them up

2. The world's shortest scheduled airline flight connects 2 islands in the U.K. and lasts 2 minutes

3. There is a 'Rent a Mourner" service to fill your funeral with fake friends

4. The British navy uses Brittany Spears' songs to scare off Somali pirates

5. Alcohol is forbidden in the U.K. parliament with 1 exception, the chancellor can drink while delivering the annual budget statement

6. 9. It is illegal to die in the House of Parliament in London

7. 3,000 people were hospitalized after tripping over a laundry basket in 1999
