A Message From the Principal
The week after Spring break our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will begin practicing for the Forward Exam. The Forward Exam is a summative assessment that gauges your child’s achievement in the content areas tested compared to other students in the state. Along with local measures such as report cards, school-wide assessments, and other information about your child’s progress in school, the results from the Forward Exam provide insight into how well your child is doing on a broad measure of achievement. The test is not timed, so we encourage students to take their time and do their very best.
We ask parents to help their child by making sure they stick to a regular sleep schedule and get plenty to eat for breakfast each morning. The testing schedule will be out soon, so if you have any questions about when your child is taking their tests, please ask your child’s teacher. We will be sending home some paper in envelopes for each parent to write encouraging notes to encourage their child to do their best on testing. Please seal the envelope and have your child return these to their teacher.

A Message from Mrs. Mann
Dear Ruschies,
Even though the weather is warming, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves are a requirement for each recess. We go outside daily unless the weather/temperature does not permit. If you have any issues providing your child with winter gear please contact me. Students who do not have the proper attire will have an alternative indoor recess.
It's also Women's History Month in March and we are sharing stories and celebrating women and their accomplishments with our students throughout the month.
Love,
Dean Mann

IMPORTANT INFO ON ATTENDANCE & ABSENCES!
EXCUSED & UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
State law requires students to be in school. Parents are only allowed to excuse their child for 10 days each school year. Anything medical is not included within that 10 day allotment. Please bring us any doctor notes for appointments, medical procedures, medical recovery, dentist appointments, dentist procedures, etc. Quarantine time is also excused medically this year.
After a child has been gone for 10 days and there is no doctor excuse provided, the absence will be unexcused. Always call when your child is absent and if the student is over 10 days, the absence will say unexcused, over 10 days. Please plan vacations for times when school is on break and if that is not possible, understand you have 10 days total that a child can miss school, unless medically excused or quarantining. Always get a pre-excused absence form to communicate an upcoming absence so we can gather and send work your child will miss.

BROADBAND MAP
We need your help! Completing this form could help you get broadband where you live or make it more affordable. WI is developing a broadband map to help determine where better and cheaper internet is needed. Log-in to Infinite Campus to take a quick 5 question survey for each of your students to help us build the map for the Portage Area.
The survey can be found in your message center and is labeled with each of your student's names. If you have taken the survey already for each of your children, you won't see it and you don't need to enter the data again.
Thank you for your help!
