Reading
We finished our Superkids curriculum! It was a bittersweet feeling to complete, "Our last Superkids book in our lives!!!" Such drama in kindergarten :) We have learned so much through our adventures with the Superkids this year. At this point, we know all of the letters and sounds, including the long and short vowel sounds. We are able to read many books independently and comprehend the story. We can write multiple sentences about a variety of topics. The list could go on and on. We will continue to reinforce these skills and build more skills to better prepare us for first grade in the next two weeks! Keep building letter sound fluency and memory word fluency at home. Also, ask your kindergartner to go back and reread many of the Superkids stories from earlier in the year as well as the book that came home today.
Math
Early this week, we played "Slides and Ladders" to review and practice naming 3D shapes. We had so much fun playing this game with our table groups! Later in the week, we got to build 3D shapes out of toothpicks and marshmallows. Then, we used an ipad to record our shape and describe its attributes. I would like to try this activity again when I am with the students (all the meetings at the end of the year are overwhelming) :), so we will probably get to do it again next week!
Writing
On Thursday, we continued our Animal Research Projects with our 6th grade Learning Buddies! We have written about our animals' appearance, diet, and habitat, as well as many fun facts about our animal. We are excited to see many of these animals when we go to the zoo with our buddies next week!
Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser
Today, we presented a check to the DeFalco family from our fundraising. We raised the money to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Walk that the family participates in. The two boys in the video (link below) have CF and go to Goodrich School. The afternoon class was able to attend the assembly and the morning class will see the video and pictures I took on Monday. Everyone in the school was given a T-shirt to wear to the assembly. The morning class will get their shirts on Monday.
Important
Please return the form that came home in the Friday Folder regarding transportation on Friday, May 27th. We will be at school all day due to our field trip, and I would like to ensure that I have all of the information necessary in order to have arrival and dismissal run as smoothly as possible!
