Lenape M. S. Smoke Signals

January 11, 2016

Happy New Year to our Lenape families

Due to the unusually warm weather in December, the management from Blue Mountain has requested that we postpone our first two trips so that they can improve conditions on the mountain and increase the amount of open terrain. To accommodate this request and to improve the experience for our students, we have changed our schedule to the following: 1/22, 1/29, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, and 3/4

Any student who cannot attend any scheduled trip will be able to make up the trip independently after 3/7. Please contact Mr. P if there are any questions.

Volunteers should complete all clearances before the date of the trip. Please visit http://www.cbsd.org/Page/355 for more information about clearances.

Central Bucks School District and Microsoft

Central Bucks School District has partnered with Microsoft to offer Microsoft Office 365 to students in Grades 5-12. Office 365's productivity suite enables students and teachers to share documents, access Microsoft software applications online and work collaboratively. As the district increases both teacher and student access to educational technology, we wanted to remind you of a great opportunity.

Microsoft Office is available free for students in grades 5-12. Students may want to take the opportunity to install the full Office applications on up to 5 PCs, Macs or tablets for free. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Students can learn more about the process here: http://www.cbsd.org/365

Once downloaded, students can work with classmates online and see each other's changes in real time with Office Online, the full version of Office or OneDrive.

My Payments Plus

CB Middle Schools will be using My Payments Plus for parents to use to pay for field trips, PE uniforms, student activities and other fees. You will receive an email blast to inform you that a field trip has been set up for your student and you can log onto My Payments Plus and make a payment. If you have a student at West you may already be familiar with the program. In the next few weeks an email blast will be sent out parent with the instructions on how to sign up.

Casey's Coats

Hello, my name is Casey Reichwein and I am a 9th grader at Lenape. Throughout my years at Lenape, I have witnessed several food drives and other fundraisers to help those in need. I decided that I wanted to take action and contribute to this cause, which is why I am creating Casey's Coats. Casey's Coats is a coat drive that will benefit hundreds of homeless in Philadelphia. My goal is to collect 1000 new or gently used coats, but to do so, I need the help of you and the Lenape community. There will be a collection box in the Lenape Main Office, where you can drop off coats. We will be collecting coats for men, women and children any size will do. The coat drive will end February 1st so please spread the word!

7th Grade Students & Immunizations

Dear Parents and Guardians of 7th Grade Students,

All students in Grade 7 are required to have documentation of a Meningitis Vaccine and Adult booster Tdap Vaccine. If you have not provided that documentation to the Nurse’s Office, please do so as soon as possible. If your child has not yet received these vaccines, please send in the date of the immunizations as soon as they are completed. You may check your child’s immunization status on the parent portal, under the “Health” tab. These are mandates of the State of Pennsylvania. Students who do not have these immunizations on file will be excluded on May 1, 2016. A reminder letter was sent home earlier this year and another one will be sent again after we return to school following the winter break.

Thank you, in advance, for providing the required documentation.

Amanda Merrill, RN, BSN

Certified School Nurse

There are steps you can take in your daily life to help protect you from getting the flu.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Practice good health habits. Get plenty of sleep and exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat healthy food.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • If you do not have a tissue, cough into your elbow or the fabric of your clothing.
  • If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine.

YES, Lenape collects Box Tops! Our life skills class uses Box top activities to reinforce skill development. Lenape earns money for every label collected.

Please send your Box Tops to school labeled "Lenape Guidance" or drop them in the box in the lobby adjacent to the main office. Please don't worry about cutting the labels, tearing them off is fine.
