What is Oscars Law?
Oscar’s law is a very simple campaign: it enables everyone to make a stand and tell the Government that "We do not want companion animals factory farmed anymore” and "We no longer want the pet industry to mislead us about what is acceptable for our animals”.
You can help fight the genocide in Australia's pounds, promote rescue organisations and shelters as the first option to adopting, and change the way Australians gets their pets. Adoption is the intelligent alternative to impulse buying. No puppy factory whether it is 'clean', 'model', 'state of the art' or otherwise is the answer for mans best friend.
What is the situation that led to the creation of the campaign?
In central victoria at a small puppy factory Debra Tranter found a a small little matted dog, by the name of Oscar. After finding Oscar Debra decided to take home Oscar and clean him up. A few days later after Oscars sugery, authorites took Oscar and put him back into the dirty habitat of the puppy farmers, because Debra didn't actually own Oscar. 18 months later Oscar was rescued once again. His recovery has been gradual given the psychological and physical trauma he has endured for 5 years of his life.
What areas or groups are standing in the way of this change to occur and why?
There are a couple of reasons why the puppy farmers haven't stopped, one of the reasons are that not many people know about the campaign! Thats why we need your help to speard the word about Oscars Law! One of the other reasons is that puppy factories sell to the pet shops. The pet shops make the puppies look nice and beautiful, and then sell them to you. Thats the reason! People buy puppies from pet shops that may have been in a puppy factory! So adopt from pet shelters and don't buy from pet shops. Help spread the word about the campaign!!
What changes in the law have been created because of this campaign? What laws need to change?
They don't necessarily need to change laws. The goverment needs to raise the stadards of the cleanliness of the puppy farms. For example, a puppy farm in gipsland passed all of its inspections. But the farm was really filthy. See. That standard needs to be raised. Otherwise get better insepctors.

Oscar the Dog!
Oscar was one of a number of dogs who were rescued from a puppy factory in central Victoria where they had been neglected to the point they required urgent veterinary care. The list of ailments the dogs suffered was extensive, including:
Severe matting — the dogs had to be sedated in order to shave their painful matted fur away from their skin; ear infections; gum disease; and rotten teeth.
Once their matted fur was shaved it was evident that painful grass seed abscesses covered their bodies. The dogs were so severely malnourished their irritated skin was like paper and they were grossly underweight.
