About the Battle of Bull Run
The battle of bull run was the first major land-based confrontation of the American Civil War. This war happened on July 21, 1861. It was fought near Manassas Junction, Virginia. The engagement began when 35,000 Union troops marched from the federal capital to strike Confederate forces of 20,000 along a small river known as the Bull Run.
Union had 28,450 troops. The Union had 460 killed, 1,124 wounded, and 1,312 missing or captured. Confederate had 32,230 troops. The Confederate had 387 killed, 1,582 wounded, and 13 missing or captured.
