Chromatography, distillation and evaporation
Chromatography
Chromatography plays a huge part in certain crime scene investigations, such as when a suspect has left a written note or has dropped something with his/her writing in ink. What happens in chromatography is that the different colours in the ink are separated as the water runs up the filter paper. We did this with different felt tip colours on filter paper where the different colours in each ink separated. An example is green ink.
