Continuing Professional Development (CPD) experience for implementing Continuity of Learning Plan
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has approved a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) experience for identified staff, including classroom teachers, specialists, administrators, and supervisors currently employed in a position in which they are required to hold a MSDE educators certificate. (Available only to educators required to hold a certificate per COMAR 13A.12.01.03B.) Educators may earn up to six (6) MSDE CPD credits for having implemented the HCPS Continuity of Learning Plan.
We are asking those interested to register on HECTOR by Monday, June 1, 2020. There will be no registration extensions. Registration does not guarantee credit. Please see here for registration instructions. This follows the process we use for SPA credit. There is no additional work to complete – this is not a course. Principals and assistant principals are eligible for the credit. Once the registration window closes, the Professional Development Office will reach out to the principal to verify the list of names on the registration, again similar to SPA credit. The Certification Office will verify the required reading credit and any other qualifying detail before this credit is awarded.
Question or concerns please email HCPSProfessionallearning@hcps.org.

Important Health Care Flexible Spending Account Announcement
As part of the CARES Act, which was enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants of the health care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) may now use account funds to pay for over-the-counter medications. Medications like Tylenol®, Zyrtec®, and more will now be available for purchase with your FSA monies without a prescription. The CARES Act temporarily reverses the provision that required FSA users to obtain a prescription for over-the-counter medicines retroactively back to purchases between the period of January 2020 and December 31, 2020.
If you have receipts for over-the-counter medications that you have purchased since January 2020, you may submit those for reimbursement from your health care FSA account by completing the Medical Reimbursement Claim Form, which can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact the Benefits Offices by email at benefits@hcps.org.

Shout Out!
HCPS Nurses are still on the job! School nurses are adding to school websites and creating newsletters to help engage our families. Nurses are reaching out to our students with chronic health care needs and helping families enroll in the Maryland’s Children Health Insurance Program (MCHIP), if needed. Additionally, nurses are helping out in other locations too. Here are just some of our hometown heroes: Ana Jakse, Susan Gardner Seitz, and Emily Mohr are helping out at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation, Barbara Polack is at Maryland Medical Reserve Corp, and Tammi Shiles is at Clorox. And all of our nurses are involved in writing new protocols and manuals to add to our program next year. We miss our students!
