Information/Updates about Westerville Central High School
Message from Mr. Lanier
Ralph Waldo Emerson says this about overcoming adversity, "when it is dark enough, you can see the stars." This has been a difficult week because of the darkness that Westerville experienced in losing our two brave officers. However, through this darkness, we have been able to see the stars that guide us through such times. The "stars" of Westerville emerged and have shown brightly to help us all cope with the shock of this tragedy. Westerville is fortunate to have such strong leadership at the highest levels, all of whom put others before themselves. You also should be very proud of how your children have conducted themselves at Central throughout this past week. We've pulled together and had one another's collective backs. The staff, students, and the Warhawk community helped to brighten the sky in this hour of darkness. We will continue to put one foot in front of the other and follow the stars out of the darkness.
Thanks again for making Central a wonderful place to be...and remember,
"It's Time to Soar Warhawks"
Mr. Lanier
Honoring our Fallen Officers
The Central Learning Community came together in a big way to remember and honor our two American Heroes. Students wrote letters of support to the WPD and to the families of the officers. In addition, Central conducted extensive fund raising activities throughout the week by collecting donations, selling WPD t-shirts, selling WPD bracelets, and raised over $5,000 to give to the WPD. In addition, Central thanks Licking Heights and Dublin Scioto High Schools, along with Lakeview Jr. High in Pickerington, for lending a hand to these efforts. Knowing how much people care, and are willing to reach out to offer their support, reinforces the knowledge that there is so much good in our community.
Black History Month Program
Ohio Energy Fair Team
The Ohio Energy Project is an annual activity in which high school students are trained to lead fun, hands-on activities about energy with elementary students. OEP partners with Westerville City Schools and all 3 high schools have a delegation of high school students who visit all the elementary schools in the district and teach 5th graders about energy. This year's group of students were members of Mrs. Martin's Chemistry classes who were trained by OEP. Central's team lead the program with all the 5th graders at Alcott Elementary. OEP is funded by the electric utility companies as an educational outreach initiative and provides energy education resources for teachers, students and the general public.
