Primary Talent Pool Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does every school have a Primary Talent Pool?
· Yes, every school must identify and service students who are informally recognized as having above grade level skills through their PTP. (704 KAR 3:285). The numbers and service delivery will vary by school.
2. Can my school select the measures for informal identification?
· Yes, your school can select the three measures. The email from Assistant Superintendent, Karen Branham listed some of our common measures (Brigance-ready with enrichments, math/reading diagnostic tests, and DRA). If your school has other ways to measure student achievement you may use three of those to determine who is in your primary talent pool. You are looking for students who score in the distinguished range consistently or ready with enrichments on the Brigance.
3. I have identified my students. Now what do I do with them?
· First, get permission from parents by sending home the permission slip in the Counselor’s binder, or by creating your own permission forms.
· Next, send a list of the students according to grade level (K-3rd) to the Advance Program Coordinator, LaTonya Frazier and code the students on Infinite Campus.
Then as a school, determine service options?
Pull out groups, in class enrichment groups, etc.
Advance Program 2014-2015
ALL JCPS schools with the exception of the traditional magnet schools will offer the Advance Program in 2014-15.
After your CogAt results are in, work with your school leadership and teachers to determine what the Advance Program will look like in your school.
Advance Program student services can be delivered through pull out services, self-contatined grade-level classes, or in class cluster groups.
Thanks in advance for your support of helping us transition into Advance Program services at your school. I have attached the current list of AP schools. Please network and discuss the various ways they are delivering services.
