PANTHER PROWL
CIMARRON MIDDLE SCHOOL JAN/FEB 2020
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Panther Families!
All signs point to another incredible and productive semester at Cimarron! Our skilled and devoted educators are hard-working and conscientious, wanting the best for your young scholar. And, our much-appreciated PTO is gearing up to highlight updates to our grounds.
I'm excited to say our new Media Center and Science Labs had inspections this week. If you have been on campus in the last year and a half you may have noticed a bit of construction. The addition of these rooms as safe rooms is nearing completion and we are looking forward to making the move into our new space. Thank you for your support and patience during this process!
We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of developing Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Diligence, and Empathy. We will continue to partner with you working to inspire our young men and young women to grow and learn. #PantherPRIDE

PARENT UNIVERSITY - EXPANDED TO 2 NIGHTS
Edmond Public Schools, together with its community partners, is expanding its parent university to two nights. The unique event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 at the district’s administrative center, 1001 W. Danforth in Edmond. The Tuesday night event will focus on topics of interest to parents of middle school and high school students while the Thursday night event will focus on topics of interest to parents of elementary students.
“By expanding this event to two nights our hope is that we can target our presentations with age-appropriate material to better serve our parents,” said Student Supports and Counseling Facilitator Erica Harris.
Parents may choose from eight different sessions each evening. Session topics and their presenters include:
“Conscious Discipline” – Elizabeth Ging, EPS Early Childhood Education Facilitator
“Preventing Sexual Child Abuse” – Shelby Lynch, Director of Education, The Care Center
“Supporting Children Through Divorce” – Jordan Parks LMFT, Calm Waters
“Digital Dangers”- Detective Sgt. Jimmy Gwartney, Edmond Police Department
“Drugs, Alcohol and Vaping” - Lt. Derick Pickard, Edmond Police Department
“Helping Your Child Through Conflicts With Peers” - Elizabeth Suddath”- Director of Prevention Services, OKSDE
“Each session equips parents with knowledge, new or additional skills, and resources to help them handle the challenging issues that can arise when raising children,” said Harris.
The event is free but space is limited and child care is not available. Individuals may attend both nights if they desire but registration is required. Registration will open January 22, 2020.

CLASS OF 2024 ENROLLMENT INFO
REMEMBER YOUR I.D. BADGE
Please assist your student in remembering to wear their I.D. Badge EVERY SCHOOL DAY. We encourage students to store their badge in their backpacks each afternoon so it will be easy to locate for the next school day. Damaged, destroyed, or lost ID badges will incur a replacement cost at the following rate: $1 for lanyards; $2 for the plastic sleeve; $2 for the printed badges.
Your help is appreciated as we continue efforts toward a safe and secure school environment.
PERSONAL DEVICES
At Cimarron Middle School, personal devices must be off and out of sight for the duration of the school day. In remaining consistent with our middle school practice, devices will be allowed prior to the first school bell at 7:40 and after the last bell at 2:40. Should a need arise for an urgent message to your child, we will be happy to help with that communication through our office at 405.340.2935.
DAILY DELIVERIES
Please make arrangements with your student before dropping off lunches, afterschool clothing, equipment, etc. Your assistance with this matter is appreciated.
School essential items will be delivered as needed.
STUDENT DRESS CODE
Dress Code - EPS Policy #4510
The student dress code is based upon the premise of recognizing fashion without sacrificing decency, safety, and appropriateness.
Tops
Remain on the shoulders
Cover midriffs at all times (even when raising a hand or two)
Remember when wearing tank tops, they must be at least 3 fingers wide at the narrowest location
Undergarments will remain covered
Frayed, shredded, ripped or torn garments are not to be worn
Bottoms
Keep your undergarments covered
If your top is longer than your shorts, ask yourself ‘Does my top pass the pencil rule?’ When I leave home and when I enter school
Correct your apparel before beginning the day.
- sometimes the bottom garment shrinks before your 1st hr.
- Do my fingers touch my skin when at my side? Then my bottoms are too short.
Frayed, shredded, ripped or torn garments are not to be worn
Footwear
Wear appropriate shoes, closed-toe shoes are the safest.
Pencil Rule - our bottom garment will touch a pencil when you place at the top of your kneecap (patella) at home, prior to beginning the day, and throughout the day
