Cognitive Abilities Testing
All students in third grade and fifth grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). CogAT is one component of District 30's comprehensive assessment plan. The test measures general and specific cognitive abilities; a student’s ability to reason and problem solve.
This multilevel battery assessment provides information in three domains: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Each domain requires approximately 45-60 minutes to administer. In addition, a practice test will be administered prior to the actual testing session. CogAT is a timed test; however, most students have sufficient time to attempt every item.
Student results will be provided to the faculty and to parents in mid- to late March. If you have any questions, please contact your school principal or Dr. Melissa Hirsch, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, at mhirsch@district.30.org.

From the Wescott Library
Book return
We are doing some housekeeping in the library before we leave for winter break and we are hoping to get some overdue books back! We have been sending notices home with students who have overdue books to remind them to bring back those books!
If students think they have returned the book(s) they can come down and talk to me. If the book is only a few days late, no worries! This is just a reminder to get them back in. Believe it or not, we have some books that have been out since the beginning of the year! Often those books are just sitting in a locker or a book bin. If a student is still reading the book, they can always come to the library to renew it.
Thanks so much for helping us return our books back home so other students can enjoy them!

"A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees." - Amelia Earhart
The Wescott Kindness Krew wrapped up their fall session by creating "kindness packages" for classrooms, filled with kindness-themed pencils, stickers & more. This is the final project of a session that included making blankets for Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, creating goody bags & door decorations for Covenant Living of Northbrook residents, making gifts & thank-you cards for Wescott custodians & cheering on classmates at the Walk for Wescott. Wescott will offer another round of Kindness Krew Club in the spring!
Multicultural Night - Host a table on Jan. 26
From the Committee
Multicultural Night is not just an event; it's a celebration of the rich tapestry of families that make up our vibrant community. We encourage you to be a part of this special evening by hosting a table and showcasing the unique beauty of your chosen country or culture.
Hosting a table provides a platform to share the wonders of your culture. Set up your space with engaging activities, and treat attendees to delicious ethnic snacks that represent the essence of your heritage. Consider creating eye-catching posters or trifold displays filled with fun facts about your country.
Multicultural Night serves as a window into the diverse cultures within our community, allowing students to explore and appreciate the richness that surrounds them. It's also a fantastic opportunity for families of different backgrounds to proudly showcase their heritage.
Ready to create a memorable table with your friends? Sign up now! For any questions or assistance, feel free to contact the committee chair at amandadae@gmail.com.
Volunteer for Wescott Madness!
Wescott Madness is our spring school fundraiser where students enter to win various events and prizes organized by our teachers and parents!
We are looking for 3 volunteers to help with Wescott Madness this year!
This is a remote role, where volunteers will serve as the liaison for the teacher raffles or the parent volunteer events. If you would like to help, please email our PTO President at wescottpto@district30.org as soon as possible so we can make this event happen.
This event relies fully on parent volunteers and cannot happen without your support. Please help continue making this event a success for our students!!
Help support the Wescott PE Program!
Make a difference
The Wescott Helping Hands Committee is collecting pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs will be recycled and the money is used to help support the families that stay there. Students can bring their pop tabs to their teachers for collection. Classes are collecting pop tabs all year long!
