March Madness!

The month of March brings us many things; college basketball tournaments, Spring Fever, the "luck of the Irish", and Dr. Seuss celebrations! Did you also know that March is also Women's History and National Reading Month? This month brings us much to find interest in and I hope you and your family will take advantage of this reminder to occupy your time checking out some of these and maybe even explore a topic you don't know much about!🍀

Words to Remember

The more that you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. - Dr. Seuss

National Reading Month!

Reading together is one the best ways to bond with your child, foster a love for reading in them and help them achieve reading success! When we read with our children they also become confident readers that enjoy reading and we all know the research shows that successful readers do better in all aspects of academics. We as parents and adults influence our children by example when they see us reading daily! Check out this QR Code for more great National Reading Month activities!

In the PCS Parent Involvement Resource Center we have a series of reading books entitled, "We Both Read", just as the title infers, the books are designed specifically for both you and your child to read. At this time parents are not able to visit the PCS Parent Involvement Resource Center, but I would like to give interested parents the opportunity to check out these specific books by accessing the resource request form button under the "Test Time" article. When you complete the form I will deliver books to your student to take home on their next school day. The books can be kept for the month and brought back next month after Spring Break.

Check out the website for this book program by Treasure Bay for reading tips and much more through the link below!

Read Local!

Please take some time to visit our local Carnegie Public Library this month and their reading resources for the whole family! The library hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. , every weekday, with lunch hour closing from 12:30-1:30 p.m. This month activities include story times, Dr. Seuss arts and crafts, and St. Patrick's Day crafts and party! Please see the March schedule link below.

SLDS Training for Parents!

What is SLDS? The Statewide Longitudinal Data System is a system that helps parents access their students school history of learning results, behavior and attendance from collective data over their student's school career. SLDS is found in the parent portal and can also aide parents with online resources linked to each standard of their students academic career. Georgia Department of Education has now created a SLDS Training Center for Parents. This online training center offers videos and step by step help in accessing and effectively resourcing this great tool!

Test Time 📝

As we talk about Spring we have to focus on the academic aspect of this time of year which of course is TESTING! This year with the circumstances surrounding us with the COVID-19 pandemic the tests will not be weighed like normal. This gives our students a great opportunity to take the test with no pressure!

Remember, that GA Milestone Testing Guides for both End of Grade (EOG) and End of Course (EOC) are free and printable from the Georgia Department of Education website or you can request a free copy of the guides through the PIRC resource form. See the GADOE website link and/or the PIRC google request form below.
