Laurelton-Pardee News
February 12, 2016
Welcome.
Dear LP Families:
We made it! Happy winter break! I hope your children have made it home safely and that you have something fun planned for the week ahead. By the looks of it, most kids were brining home LARGE amounts of Valentine's candy. I hope they share with you!
I have been spending a lot of time in the lunch room lately. Today I wished each grade level a safe and fun break and told them I hope they get outside to play! Oh, and they should do some reading, too. I recognized three classes for good behavior in the lunch room today, giving them each a "point" in the monthly class point challenge. Today's point-earning classes were Mrs. Gilfoy's class, Mrs. Jones' class, and Mr. Sereno's class. I hope to be able to continue to recognize positive behavior in the lunch room.
Enjoy the week!
Sincerely,
Lucas Hiley
Principal

Changes for the 2016 Grades 3-8 Math and ELA State Exams
The NYS Education Department informed us this week that this year's state tests will look a little different. While we knew the tests were being created by a different company (Questar), we learned a few other differences for the year.
The main changes:
1. Greater involvement of educators in the test development process.
2. Decrease in the number of test questions
3. A shift to untimed testing

Right now I am reading the biography of Mary Shelley's step-sister Claire Claimont.
If I had a magic wand, I would end world poverty.
