Assistant Principal's Corner
Greetings Trailblazers!
As I reflect on this past week, I am humbled by the incredible parent and PTO support we were lucky enough to be the beneficiaries of during Staff Appreciation Week. We were showered with loving notes of gratitude, thoughtful gifts, delicious treats and meals, happy and grateful smiles from those who brought items in or volunteered to provide the treats, and an overwhelming feeling of love and appreciation. Our staff truly thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts.
SOL Make-Ups and Retakes
SOL retakes (for those eligible) and any remaining makeups will both be taking place sometime during the week of May 13th. We are currently working on a potential schedule for next week, but it will still require flexibility on everyone's part. Please understand that when a schedule is made there still may be further changes to this schedule if teachers feel additional remediation is necessary; if too many students are absent in a group; or if examiners or rooms become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances. We will stick to the schedule as much as possible, but please continue to be patient and flexible. We appreciate your support and how well you have been preparing your students for their SOLs!
A few SOL reminders:
Don’t forget to have a hearty breakfast, get a good night’s sleep, bring your glasses (if needed), and arrive to school on time as we wrap up the last few weeks of SOL preparation and testing.
- Scores will be posted through ParentVue around 24-72 hours after test administration. A passing score is anything above a 400. Eligible retakes include scores from 375-399. Our teachers will begin remediating right away due to the tight turnaround time to ensure your student is prepared for their retake, and to shore up any knowledge/test taking skills needed. Our wonderful counselors will be making a courtesy call to inform you that your student is eligible for a retake and that you still agree with the decision to retake or to not participate in a retake. They will call once and either speak to you or leave a message. You do not need to return their call unless you are changing your original answer on the Expedited Retake letter that you hopefully returned in March or April.
- All we ask is that you do your best!
Have a wonderful week and we will see our 5th Graders at their DARE Ceremony on Tuesday, May 14th at 9:00 am!
Warmly,
Debbie Ragan

PTO Update
A huge thank you to our talented, dedicated, and impressive Staff Appreciation Committee who pulled together a wonderful week of meals, treats, and sweets for our Trailblazer staff and teachers. It’s takes months of planning, coordinating volunteers and donations, and man hours to execute each day. This could not have been possible without the vision and leadership of Colleen Scout, Heather Finney, Allison Mulieri and many others who brought their energy and spirit each day!
We are so grateful to have received nominations for each of our open PTO Board positions. Being on the Board is a great way to get involved and make a difference in the lives of every Discovery student.
Please join us for our final PTO meeting this week, Tuesday May 14 at 7pm in the Library to vote in the new Board and make your voice heard!
Thank You
