St. Mike's Matters- Notes
October 20, 2022
There's a Lot Going On at St. Mikes!
Fund-A-Need
Wow, our Family Night was so much fun, and such a wonderful chance for community building! Thank you to all who were there supporting the school and your kids. We are still short on our Fund-A-Need ask which will be used to purchase security cameras for our campus. It’s not too late! If you are able to help, please send a check into school (just indicate what it’s for) or contact Mrs. Quebedeaux at squebedeaux@stmikesolympia.org if you would like to use a credit card.
Evangelical Catholic
The parish survey has been completed and published. Sixty percent of our parishioners are seeking more knowledge of Scripture/Bible Study and 41% want to participate in Small Faith Sharing Groups. At school, we are putting together a group of parents who are interested in being part of both of those requests through a program that aims to continue Catholic formation, build community, enrich our knowledge of Scripture, and give us the skills to be a resource for those seeking to engage more fully in our faith. The parish program that we want to participate in is called Evangelical Catholic and the formation is through a Catholic website called ReachMore.
The training involves twelve weeks of participation: six weeks before Christmas and six weeks after. Once you’ve completed the training, our hope is that you then become a small group facilitator for a group of parents from your child’s class. It’s our effort to build greater engagement with our parish and especially within each class. It’s always easier to practice faith in community!
We would love to personally invite each one of you, but find we’ve not met all our parents yet. So, please take a look at the video links below, if you would be open to learning more about this work. It is truly discipleship in action, and a great way to become more connected to faith, friendship, and our “family of families.” In order for the parish to put the class together to meet the needs of those participating, please let Michaela Moreau know at mmoreau@saintmichaelparish.org by this weekend.

Support Your Child's Classroom
Each year, PTSA funds your children's field trips, and other activities that parents don't have to pay for. After two long years of putting those events on hold, we're ready to send our kids on trips again. Those trips are funded from sweatshirt and spirit wear sales, but mostly from Scrip sales.
We sell scrip gift cards at face value, and receive a rebate from the Scrip organization. It's a win-win for all, but as you can imagine, it's some work to organize. We currently have one wonderful volunteer, but she needs help. It can take as much as one afternoon a week during the holidays, but often less.
If you have it in your schedule to give time to this much needed effort, please let me know (at krafferty@stmikesolympia.org) or our PTSA Chairs, Kim DeBord and Mary Sherman. If you have any questions or just want a bit more information, please email or call me, Kim or Mary. Thank you greatly in advance.

We will collect and count the coats every Friday to deliver them to the Saint Vincent de Paul Ministry. What Is A Birthday Book?
Birthday books are added to the collection at St. Michael School library in honor of someone's birthday. Any student can select a book from the collection of new books waiting to be added to our library. The book will be presented at Monday Morning Opening and the birthday boy or girl will be the first person to check out the book!
If you would like to celebrate your student's birthday by donating a birthday book, please complete the form. A $5.00 donation is requested to help defray the cost of the book. Please check if you want your FACTS account charged or you can send in cash or check (payable to St. Michael School and marked "birthday book" on the memo line). If the cost is prohibitive, please contact Mrs. Quebedeaux (school librarian) squebedeaux@stmikesolympia.org, as we do not want any child to be excluded who wishes to participate.
A special Birthday Club bookplate will be printed and placed inside the book cover with your child's name and year the book was donated.

How Do I Participate?
- Purchase SCRIP gift cards in the school office. We can also place special orders if we do not have the physical cards you want on hand.

St. Michael Parish School Covid-19 Policy
If a student or staff member is ill or COVID-19 positive:
Students and staff who have symptoms of COVID-19 are required to stay home and should get tested. Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to isolate at home. Individuals may return to school on Day 6 if they test negative on that day (Day 0 is the first day of symptoms or, if without symptoms, the day of the positive viral test). Those individuals need to wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days (day 6 through day 10) if they return to school after the end of their 5-day isolation period. If an individual is unable to wear a well-fitting mask, they need to continue to isolate for a full 10 days. To further protect other school children and staff, individuals who test positive using antigen or at-home tests towards the end of the full 5 days of isolation, and/or on days 6-10, are required to complete the full 10 days of isolation. Testing after day 10 is not recommended.
If a student or staff member is exposed to COVID-19:
DOH no longer requires exposed students and staff to quarantine. To protect the school, students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, who are potentially exposed to COVID-19 should:
• Monitor for symptoms, AND
• Test as soon as possible after exposure and then repeat testing every 24-48 hours through at least the first 5 days after exposure AND
• Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.
Covid-19 positive cases and exposure cases need to be reported to the St. Michael Parish School Health Office (rfeldmann@stmikesolympia.org). Covid-19 testing is available through the Health Office if home testing is not available.
