Trevor has helped out a fellow student in need in our class.
STUDENT: Ronald Harley
NOMINATED BY: Mrs. Medica & Mr. Bower
Ron brought a new student to our office, it was his first day and he was lost and didn't know where to go. Ron was so happy to be able to help our new student this morning. It is so nice to see the thoughtfulness and respect for another student, and the courtesy of taking the time to be helpful to another. Actions speak louder than words! Ron's actions are proof he is an EHT Strong student!World Languages Study Abroad Fair October 2, 2019
13 EHTHS students accepted more than $62,000 in Global Navigator Scholarship funds from The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) to study abroad this past summer. The students studied in six different countries, including Mexico, Spain, Germany, France, Thailand, and Italy. The students studied on three or four week programs.
More than 800 students attended the Study Abroad Fair to learn about the many programs available to them through CIEE. During the fair students talked to fellow students about the classes they took and the cities where they lived. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about study abroad and to consider applying for one of this year’s scholarships.
All students in grades 9-10-11 are eligible to apply for a Global Navigator scholarship from CIEE. Students interested in applying can learn more at https://ehtworldlanguages.weebly.com/ciee.html A Parent Information Night will be held on October 30th in the LGI at the High School at 6:30pm. Varsity Girls Soccer
EHT had a very successful senior night hosting Bridgeton last Thursday in the rain. Seven different seniors scored on route to a 7-0 win for the Eagles as they rise to 9-3-0 overall and 6-1 in the CAL American conference. Isabella Leak, Olivia Barney, and Karina Poveromo had a goal and an assist each, Samantha Murphy, Gabby Germann, and Sam Vogt each found the back of the net, and Kara Semet had a goal and two assists on the night. Senior Grace Baumgartel tied the EHTHS single season record with 8 shutouts on the year! She has at least seven more games to break the record. Go Grace! Senior captain Lauren Ebner continues to lead the program with both her tenacious play and her offense (2 goals, 5 assists). Senior manager Sam Donnelly is also vital to the accurate record keeping for the program. Congratulations class of 2020!
The JV team participated in the SJSOA jv-only tournament this past weekend and won their first round game against GCIT 2-0! Sophomores Addy Umphlett and Jessica Molina scored both EHT goals in the first half to set the Lady Eagles ahead. The strong play of sophomore defenders Alexa Ali, Jenna Green, and Violette Malpartida along with freshman goalie keeper Jailynn Mulhern sealed the win with a shutout performance. The JV team plays in the round of 8 on Saturday against Kingsway. With a win, they would advance to the semifinals for the first time in the schools seven years entering the tournament. Way to go, girls!
EHT traveled to the Technical Institute of Atlantic County looking for its tenth win of the season for the fourth consecutive season in a row. The girls were up for the challenge putting seven goals in the back of the net in the first half. Junior Niki Danz recorded the hat trick while assisting on another goal along with junior Maddy Morgan who had two goals and an assist. Senior captain Lauren Ebner ripped a ball into the upper corner for another and senior Samantha Murphy smoothly found the back of the net on her goal. Junior Hayley Duncan capped off the scoring with the only goal in the second half. Junior Kristen Semet dished out a triplet of assists while forwards Gabby Germann and Alicia Page selflessly set up a goal a piece. Senior goal keeper Grace Baumgartel set the single season score record with her 9th shutout of the year. Up next: CAL Semifinals on Saturday at 11am @Ocean City! Come out to support your Lady Eagles! Congratulations to the EHT Boys Soccer team for making the CAL Tournament as well!
Varsity Boys Soccer
On Friday the Eagles started the weekend right by taking an hour long drive to Bridgeton. Upon first arrival and shaking off the cobwebs of the drive, the fields looked like the vast plains of the midwest. Much to their dismay, there was no tatonka to be seen, only bulldogs, and they were ready to battle. The Eagles wasted no time getting down to business as they came for one job and one job to be done...win soccer games. Ahmad Brock struck first adding to his 18th goal of the year, followed quickly by Burak Cimen and Niko Rubio. At times, there are things that happen on the soccer field that one cannot repeat sort of just like what happened to EJ Martin on that day. He received the ball just shy of the half and like a chessmaster knowing that his opponent is beat ten moves ahead, EJ took the step towards the goal with a grimace. The goalkeeper was off his line and knew he was beat as soon as EJ let the ball go. Rather than make the save, the goalkeeper opted for defeat and collapsed to the ground. See video below. Manny Ruiz would add another for the day to ensure the victory.

On Tuesday the Vikings of Atlantic City decided to grace Eagles Nest Stadium in a night spectacular guaranteed to entertain the masses. The rivalry between Atlantic City and the Eagles has grown over the last couple years with the Atlantic City Vikings having the Eagles’ number, but the tides are changing for the Eagles, and like a great nor’easter the tides were at high in favor of the hometown boys. In warm-ups our young Manny Ruiz could be seen warming up by himself one question he just simply told the coaches “I’m working on something it’s gonna bring this house down.” And that he did. For the first 20 minutes of the game it took the Eagles a little bit to wake up and how they did that was by our own Manny Ruiz. Manny has been working on a signature move. Something he called the unicycle and unlike the bicycle kick seen by adoring fans in 1968 by world-famous Pele against Belgium, it was a work of genius. Like a young clown attending Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Clown School, and learning to ride a unicycle for the first time, Manny received the ball at his feet and started the trance inducing run. He was wobbling left and dodging right and dodging left and then another wobble right as if unable to get his balance. The Atlantic City defense was not accustomed to this tomfoolery and simply backed out of the way as Manny made his way right to the goalkeeper and sliced it in the back of the net. The sellout crowd erupted! Goals quickly followed by Burak Cimen, EJ Martin and Niko Rubio. Soccer magic happened when Henry Calix received his first goal. Henry received the ball inside the box and placed the ball behind the keeper. The real touching moment was when Henry sprinted completely across the field to go and celebrate with his father for the first goal of his varsity career. The boys ended the game with seven goals, a bit of luck, a touch of magic, and a unicycle ride right into the hearts of all the adoring fans.
On Thursday, the Eagles hosted the lesser known birds of the CAL, the Redhawks of ACIT. ACIT has never beaten the Eagles, and to pour more salt on their wounds, the Redhawks were the team that made Coach Lambert the all time winningest coach in EHT soccer history and the first round team of the playoffs. ACIT no likey the Eagles, and it showed. The Eagles started sluggish and even though Ahmad Brock was able to find the back of the net for his 19th goal of the season, ACIT nailed the equalizer soon after. The first half ended tied. There was a low roar coming from the bench during the halftime speech made by Coach Lambert, and little did they know that the grumble being heard was the insatiable appetite yearning to be fed. Oh and how the boys began to sate that hunger with goals. Everyone’s favorite human, Cole Gordon, got the ball rolling when his cleared header from the goalkeeper was placed perfectly on the feet of a running Manny Ruiz. He quickly found the back of the net. Ahmad Brock then blasted home a ball that knuckled past the goalkeeper like a pitch from Tim Wakefield. To seal the deal, Nyen Le blazed down the field past the ACIT defense and fired a kick that happened to land on the goalline. And like a little school child waiting to be let cross the busy road, Ahmad Brock guided that little ball to safety for his 21st of the year. The boys would finish the day 4-1.
