Third Grade AIM
It's AIM Day!
Today in AIM
Although today was officially the second time we have met as a third grade AIM class, it really was our first chance to dive into our year long unit of study. In previous years third graders have studied Ancient Greece, however with all of the district changes came an opportunity to combine, refresh, and customize a few things. Ancient Greece will be tackled next year and this year we're going to put on our "city planner" hats and design a city of the future (a 100 years in the future). When I stumbled across a similar project in the list of "possibilities" I knew with a few enhancements it would be exactly the kind of thing that would expose our class to higher level information/challenges. As I designed the unit I carefully included the kinds of activities that they typically love to do (designing, building, filming etc.,) along with those "must develop" skills. After introducing the project (which they loved), we started by playing a "guess what type of building I am" and together read a little bit about zoning and city planning.
