Pekapekarau Primary School
Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou ē te whānau
Once again, it has been a busy two weeks that have flown past. We can all be proud of how our community awhis others and supports the work that our staff do here, all that goes towards the most important people here, our tauira (students), your tamariki. I’d lik to thank everyone who supported our school efforts to raise money to support those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. Our Pekapekarau whānau raised $410.90 and collectively as a cluster of schools, we raised $7212 with a few schools still to share their total. This will undoubtedly go a long way to helping.
For our kura, we have also managed to raise just over $1000 in our Bulbs fundraiser, so thank you to everyone for supporting with this also. It was an easy, successful way of making some money, which will go towards the cost of more resources and activities for our tamariki.
Altogether we have been working to raise the presentation of our school. There will be some exciting developments happening in the front area of our school soon, which I’m sure our students will enjoy watching come to life. Uniforms also help our school look clean and tidy and we are reaching out for some support from you to ensure that your child comes to school in correct uniform, including the right shoes. Yellow, orange, pink and multi-coloured crocs are great for dress up/mufti days as are tiaras, sparkly bracelets and makeup. We also teach our tamariki to manage themselves and aim high with presenting themselves in our uniform and wearing it with pride. The expectation is for them to wear plain black shoes or scuffs even, to have their uniform clean and tidy, along with their hair and face. Your help with checking this in the morning as they leave the house would be greatly appreciated.
You may have noticed that this newsletter has been sent out a little later than normal as we waited for official information to be shared with schools and their Boards on Friday. You will have received a letter from our Presiding Member of the Board, Erinna Lane, via email on Friday afternoon. I have added a link to the letter below. Please read this carefully. We thank you in advance for your support.

Learning Groups with Mrs O'Neill
'Literacy Legends' and the 'Writing Rockstars' are having lots of fun writing stories. We are learning to structure our stories so it sets up a problem, things go wrong in the middle of the story, and then we fix the problem. We are also learning to extend our vocabulary.
'Communication Kids' and 'Confidence Kids' are learning to have positive conversations with others. We are learning to share ideas, stay on topic, take turns speaking, and complimenting each other.
Little Heart Day - 24th March
We are looking forward to supporting one of our STARS who is promoting My Little Heart Day on the 24th March. More information to come.
