Family Specialist Spotlight
Rachel Hicks began her career in Family Engagement and Parent Education over 20 years ago in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD. Rachel’s personal life has not been short of challenges. As a child with learning disabilities, she lost confidence in herself, and after graduating from high school believed furthering her education was never going to be possible. However, her brother believed differently and he challenged Rachel to enroll in college to take one class.
Ms. Hicks is now a Certified Life Coach with Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. She published a Parent Literacy Curriculum in 2009 while working as Director for a Parenting Program - Education Alliance. Rachel joined NEISD in 2011 and is presently the Family Specialist at Eisenhower Middle School and is proud to call herself a General. As a Family Specialist, she has the opportunity to develop positive relationships with parents, students, and staff. She strongly believes a safe and happy home environment is key to children experiencing success in their educational and personal lives. Her experiences as a parent and as a Family Specialist have taught her that: parenting is tough; healthy parenting is a skill that is developed; and we will make mistakes but parents are responsible for our children’s physical, emotional and social well-being. Children depend on their parents to lead by example as they teach, encourage, help, support and protect. Children will do much better in life if they know they are safe and secure, when rules and limits are in place and love is consistent and unconditional. Rachel is married and has one adult son living in Burbank, California. Thank you Rachel for your dedication and perseverance to help every family!
