Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language
Hello Fronteras Families!
Wow, our sports and academic athletes have been shining this semester!
· Elementary and Middle School Battle of the Books teams competed last Friday and Saturday – we are super proud of all the hard work they put into preparing for their battles! Thank you to coaches Sr. Pierson, Srta. Pierce, and the fabulous parents who led after-school practices and cheered the teams on at their competitions!
· Our JV and V wrestling teams continue to bring home pins! In the matches I’ve been able to attend, I see so much improvement, and I don’t have a trained eye for all the skill that sport requires of its athletes! Thank you to Coach McBride for bringing this sport to Fronteras!
· Our Lady Phoenixes continue to command the courts in all of their Volleyball matches! It has been so exciting to watch the impressive serves, volleys, and miraculous point-savers! Thank you Coach Cook for helping our athletes reach their full potential!
· Our JNYO athletes will compete tomorrow at Houston Middle School (HMS) beginning at 9:00am. If you have time to take a drive to Houston, I know our kiddos would love the extra support! Thank you Coach Neilson for your dedication to our students! A big Thank You to the middle school students who volunteered their time to help our young athletes practice and prepare for tomorrow!
SUPER IMPORTANT! Fronteras Parent Conferences are next THURSDAY the 15th in the school gym. Conference times: 7:30am-11:00am and 2:00pm-4:30pm. Please honor the staff’s contractual obligations and plan to attend during the above times. Thank you for supporting your child’s education!
Our school’s 3rd-8th grade English Spelling Bee is Wednesday, February 28th in our school gym. Please join us to support our spellers! Our 3rd-8th grade Spanish Bee will follow on March 2nd, also in the gym. Both bees will begin at approximately 8:30am.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Hutchins

Did You Know?
Chocolates, roses and love poems are just a few ways people celebrate Valentines Day. Many could argue that it is a consumer frenzy holiday steeped in cliche acts of love. However, it is also a holiday that has many traditions and especially for countries in Latin America.
In Guatemala it is known as 'El Día del Cariño'. Puerto Rico is similar to Guatemala where they celebrate Valentines Day by holding large public parties.
In certain Latin American countries Valentines Day is not celebrated on February 14th. Colombia and Bolivia celebrate the day in September where it is tradition for people to send gifts as secret admirers.
Finally, if you live in Argentina, then you are lucky because you get to celebrate the holiday twice a year. Not only do they have Valentines Day in February but as well in July they celebrate the 'Sweet Week'.
Valentines day may be celebrated with different traditions in each country but the one common theme is that it is a day for love, family, friendship and having a great time!
